How much does the 2025 Land Rover Defender cost?

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender a good car?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender earns a 7.5/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

It is a strong fit if you want one SUV that can handle daily driving and serious adventure, because the lineup spans the 90, 110, and 130 body styles and multiple engine choices. The Defender is also described as rugged but refined, comfortable yet capable, and fun to drive.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor on-pavement handling.

With 35.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender reliable?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender is presented as a capable SUV with a four-year/80,000-kilometre warranty and roadside assistance plan that helps cover unexpected repairs during a typical lease term.

Its off-road hardware and refined driver aids suggest a well-developed package, and the expert evaluation describes the Defender as incredibly capable and confidence-inspiring off-road. The powertrain is also described as delivering robust and smooth acceleration, with fuel economy that aligns with admittedly low expectations.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that premium capability can come with premium running costs and more complexity than simpler SUVs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Land Rover Defender?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 110 is the sweet spot in this design, while the 90 looks stubby and the 130 carries more visual mass. Base versions are less richly equipped than the X test vehicle, which adds black exterior elements, upgraded interior materials, and Land Rover’s off-roading technology as standard equipment.
• Powertrain: The Defender is offered with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, plus a turbocharged or supercharged V8. The test vehicle’s turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid setup makes 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, with an eight-speed automatic, standard AWD, and a low-range setting.
• Safety package: Land Rover’s driver aids include automatic high beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. Lane-centring assist is available when using adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: Pivi Pro uses an 11.4-inch touchscreen, paired with a configurable digital driver display. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, connected services, and over-the-air refinement through the system’s software experience.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 14.5 L/100 km on the testing loop, and Natural Resources Canada says it should have used 13.0 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2025 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender is offered in 4 trim levels: 90, 110, 130, and OCTA.

Here's the short version:

• 90: Choose this if you want the shortest, most distinctive Defender shape and are comfortable with the two-door layout.
• 110: This is the best-value trim because it is the sweet spot for the design and the most balanced choice for most buyers.
• 130: Pick this if you want the extended four-door body and the most passenger-and-cargo-friendly packaging.
• OCTA: This is the high-performance choice and the most expensive path in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the most extreme version.

The Defender X test vehicle also shows that higher trims can bring Land Rover’s off-roading technology as standard equipment, so check carefully for safety and off-road feature differences as you move up the range.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Land Rover Defender?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 159 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.91% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $83,449 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $83,632 CAD sits slightly below last year's $103,129 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for used buyers, but it also means sellers are facing softer pricing than they were a year ago. If you own one, you may need to price competitively to move it quickly. For future resale, the Defender’s distinctive personality and broad lineup should help, but premium SUVs can still be sensitive to market shifts.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender safe?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Land Rover equips the Defender with several driver aids, including automatic high beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. When using adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist is available.

The system works in a refined manner overall, though the lane keep assist can be quite assertive. In this test vehicle, it also attempted to steer the Defender into a turnout area on a local highway. Adaptive cruise and lane centring were otherwise transparent and easy to live with.

Crash-test ratings were unavailable at press time.

Should I buy a 2025 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.91% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds a high-performance OCTA variant and brings a strong technology showing.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $70,857 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $83,632 CAD average.
• It offers a rugged-yet-refined take on genuine off-road ability.

The bottom line: If you want the most current mix of technology, capability, and trim breadth, the 2025 is the better target. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one with the features you want at a lower asking price.
