How much does the 2024 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 8.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 141 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.17/5 user rating and a 4.5/10 expert rating, which points to a vehicle that appeals strongly to a specific kind of buyer. The standout strength is Form and function at 6/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and aesthetics, and they also like the improved ride quality plus features such as heated seats and blind spot monitoring. The 4Runner’s use case is clear: you’re buying it for rugged utility, cargo space, and trail-ready character rather than modern polish. On the downside, the expert review calls out poor handling and sluggish performance, and owners also mention weak fuel economy and a noisy cabin in daily driving. Even so, 21.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time, especially if you value durability and a reputation for long-term use. The expert review reinforces that theme by describing it as reliable and durable, with a strong reputation for both. If you’re buying used, the main ownership risk is less about outright fragility and more about accepting an older design with compromises that may matter more as mileage climbs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 4Runner’s rugged, old-school character is part of the appeal, but the base setup is light on modern polish. Higher trims add more serious off-road hardware and a more premium feel, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want more than the essentials.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 4Runner uses a 4.0-litre V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic. It has enough muscle for off-road use, but it feels slow on pavement and the transmission is dated.
• Safety package: Toyota includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited trims also add a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: You get standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on an eight-inch touchscreen. The system is basic, and the screen is small enough that it can be awkward to use while driving.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.8 L/100 km combined. That thirst is one of the 4Runner’s biggest compromises.

Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 2 trim levels: SR5 and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the trim to focus on if you want the 4Runner’s core strengths without paying for the most expensive off-road hardware. It gives you the traditional 4Runner formula and is the better-value starting point for shoppers who mainly want cargo space, durability, and trail capability.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most serious off-road attitude and equipment. It adds underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, a beefy tubular roof rack, a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system, and the surround-view camera system.

The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited trims also come with a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 21.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 141 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $55,652 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $57,816 CAD sits slightly below last year's $63,371 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if depreciation continues at the same pace. The 4Runner’s strong reputation for durability should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a rugged SUV with real utility. Still, the current trend suggests you should not expect resale strength to come from price appreciation alone.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection, five-star ratings for side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations from NHTSA. The IIHS gives it a Good result for the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test brings incomplete results with some worrying Marginal and Poor ratings.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited trims also come with a surround-view camera system. One caveat is that the alerts can be overly sensitive, especially the lane-departure warning and forward collision warning, though some of those settings can be adjusted.

Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 21.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a rugged, off-road-capable SUV with strong reliability and durability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $54,871 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $57,816 CAD average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $71,728 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $57,816 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned 4Runner with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the current model-year 4Runner and can find a well-priced example, the 2024 is the safer buy than paying up for the newer redesign. If price matters most, the 2023 is the value play; if you want the biggest leap forward, the 2025 is the better long-term target.
