Is the 2024 Subaru Forester reliable?

The Forester’s reliability appeal comes from its reputation for durability, standard all-wheel drive, and straightforward everyday usability. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that a well-used example may show the effects of age and mileage more than a more complex vehicle would.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 477 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,456 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $34,456 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,141 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a mixed signal for future resale: it may help you buy at a more favourable point now, but it also means the market has already adjusted downward. If prices stay near this level, a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations. On the other hand, the Forester’s practical strengths and broad appeal can help support steady demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,934 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $34,456 CAD average.
• It prioritises practicality with standard AWD and a roomy cabin.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $37,295 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $34,456 CAD average.
• It adds a quieter cabin and more advanced tech and safety features.

The bottom line: The 2024 is the best all-around pick if you want the current model year’s balance of value, practicality, and strong satisfaction. If price is your top priority, the 2023 is the smarter budget play, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the newer refinements and can stretch your budget.
