How much does the 2024 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.7/10. The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is positioned as an SUV for active urbanites, and it backs that up with stylish design, excellent outward visibility, a comfortable cabin, commendable quality, and genuinely enjoyable driving manners. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin is not especially spacious for cargo, and the technology is described as outdated. Fuel economy is also a weak point on Turbo models.

With 20.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is described as a refined, mature compact crossover that has been steadily improved over time rather than radically changed. That continuous refinement shows up in its polished cabin, strong safety reputation, and well-sorted driving character. Its standard all-wheel drive and sophisticated handling tune also support the sense that Mazda has prioritised durability and everyday confidence.

The performance tuning is described as composed and rewarding, and the standard advanced safety equipment adds to the impression of a well-engineered vehicle. Mazda also includes remote engine starting, a find my car feature, and automatic 911 dialling through Mazda Connected Services when paired and activated.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the CX-5’s practicality and technology may feel dated sooner than its core mechanical appeal.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes GS, GX, Kuro, GT, Sport Design, Suna, and Signature. The base versions get the core CX-5 experience, while higher trims add features such as adaptive headlights, traffic sign recognition, a driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking. If you want the most complete safety and convenience package, the Signature stands apart.
• Powertrain: You get a base 2.5-litre four-cylinder or a 2.5 Turbo setup. The turbocharged engine is stronger, but it is also the one called out for poor fuel economy.
• Safety package: Every CX-5 includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add adaptive headlights and traffic sign recognition, while the Signature gets the most advanced safety hardware.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Mazda’s rotary-controller interface. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on several trim levels, and touchscreen use is allowed for those smartphone platforms while driving.
• Fuel efficiency: The official Natural Resources Canada fuel economy rating for the Turbo is 9.8 L/100 km combined, and the base engine is rated at 9.3 L/100 km combined, or 8.5 L/100 km with the cylinder deactivation option.

Which 2024 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 7 trim levels: GS, GX, Kuro, GT, Sport Design, Suna, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s standard all-wheel drive, core safety suite, and the basic upscale feel without stretching the budget.
• GS: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while staying below the higher-priced luxury-leaning versions.
• Kuro: Choose this if you want a more distinctive appearance and a step up in presentation without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• GT: This is the sensible upgrade if you want a more polished daily driver with more premium equipment and broader appeal.
• Sport Design: Pick this if you want a more style-focused CX-5 with a stronger visual presence.
• Suna: This is the most distinctive mainstream choice, and it pairs the Turbo engine with premium touches and the Bose audio system.
• Signature: This is the one to buy if you want the most complete CX-5, including the highest-end safety and convenience features.

The Signature trim is where Mazda reserves the driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 20.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,175 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,223 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $32,230 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,775 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current market indicates you may need to price competitively to stand out. The good news is that the model’s premium feel, strong safety reputation, and broad appeal should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2024 Mazda CX-5 has earned a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the past, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it five-star ratings across the board, except for a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips every CX-5 with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add adaptive headlights and traffic sign recognition, while the Signature trim gets a driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking.

A key caveat is that the CX-5 did not earn its previous Top Safety Pick accolade in 2024, even though its ratings remain strong.

Should I buy a 2024 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s continuous refinement keeps the CX-5 polished, upscale, and enjoyable to drive.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,786 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $32,230 CAD average.
• It remains appealing, stylish, and enjoyable to drive.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $35,862 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $32,230 CAD average.
• It blends practicality with a genuinely enjoyable driving experience.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong satisfaction, and a well-rounded ownership experience, the 2024 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 is the better value play.
