How much does the 2024 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 14.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 197 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

It stands out as a rugged-yet-refined luxury SUV for you if you want genuine off-road ability without giving up a more sophisticated cabin and a broad range of configurations. The 2024 model year also adds a host of new features and expands availability of one of its powerful V8 engine options, which broadens its appeal if you want more performance choices.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: handling is more cumbersome than most luxury SUVs, and fuel economy is below average. Even so, the Defender’s versatility and capability make it a strong fit if you value presence and all-terrain ability as much as everyday comfort.

With 41.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Defender’s appeal is rooted in its go-anywhere reputation, and the 2024 model keeps that identity while adding more sophistication and equipment. Its standard feature set and broad powertrain range suggest a vehicle built to do a lot of different jobs well, from daily driving to demanding conditions.

The performance content also points to strong capability across the lineup, with multiple engines, full-time active four-wheel drive, and towing capacity that scales up well when properly equipped. That breadth is useful if you want one SUV that can handle work, travel, and recreation.

The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium, highly capable SUV can be costly to keep if you need repairs or frequent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Land Rover Defender?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim gives you a strong standard equipment list, including 19-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, partial leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof, and a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel. Higher trims add more visual and equipment upgrades, while the Outbound focuses on extra cargo space by removing the third row.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a turbocharged four-cylinder, a mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six, or supercharged 5.0-litre V8 options. The lineup prioritises capability, with full-time active four-wheel drive and strong towing capacity when properly equipped.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Some trims also offer additional off-road-oriented hardware.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel and an 11.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD radio, and a 10-speaker Meridian sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configuration returns 12.9 L/100 km city, 10.8 highway, and 12.0 combined. The base four-cylinder in the 90 returns 13.1 L/100 km city, 11.4 highway, and 12.3 combined. Our 110 with the six-cylinder returns 13.8 city, 11.6 highway, and 12.8 combined. The least efficient version returns 16.4 city, 12.7 highway, and 14.7 combined.

Which 2024 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2024 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: S, X-Dynamic SE, X, V8, and Outbound.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Defender’s core character with a strong standard equipment list, including heated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, and the Meridian audio system.
• X-Dynamic SE: This trim adds 20-inch alloy wheels and distinctive exterior and interior styling touches, making it a good step up if you want more presence without jumping too far up the range.
• X: This is the most capability-focused choice in the lineup, adding 22-inch wheels, a digital rearview mirror camera, and partial Windsor leather upholstery. It also aligns well with the Defender’s more adventurous side.
• V8: Choose this if you want the strongest performance and the more upscale leather-and-microsuede cabin treatment.
• Outbound: This is the one to consider if you want the Defender 130’s extra cargo space and can live without the third row.

The safety package is extensive across the lineup, but lane-departure and lane-keeping intervention can feel overly touchy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Land Rover Defender?

It looks like a buyer’s market right now, especially if you’re willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 197 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $70,826 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $70,857 CAD sits slightly below last year's $82,650 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar immediately. If you buy at today’s lower average, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher. The Defender’s strong brand appeal and broad capability should still help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a luxury SUV with real off-road credibility.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender comes with an extensive list of standard driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Other standard safety tech includes traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The lane-departure and lane-keeping assist intervention are both a little too touchy, and they can feel intrusive in some driving situations. You can deactivate them with the push of a button, but they may still be noticeable when you first encounter them.

Should I buy a 2024 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 adds a host of new features and expands availability of one of its powerful V8 engine options.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $62,980 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $70,857 CAD average.
• It offers broad configuration choice and strong character for buyers who prioritise capability.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $83,632 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $70,857 CAD average.
• It broadens the lineup with more body styles, more engines, and the high-performance OCTA.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price movement, equipment, and broad appeal, the 2024 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 gives you a lower entry point, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the newest updates and are willing to pay more.
