How much does the 2024 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 13.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 203 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

It stands out as a rugged-yet-refined luxury SUV that suits you if you want genuine off-road ability without giving up a premium image. The 2024 model year also adds a host of new features, and one of its powerful V8 engine options becomes available in a wider range of versions.

The trade-offs are that handling is more cumbersome than most luxury SUVs, and fuel economy is below average.

With 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to find strong value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Defender’s appeal comes from its blend of rugged design, sophisticated feel, and a long list of standard interior and safety features. Its powertrain range and off-road focus also support the sense that it is built for demanding use.

The performance setup is broad, with multiple engine choices and full-time active four-wheel drive, which should help it feel durable and capable in varied conditions. The cabin also has a short learning curve, which can make day-to-day ownership easier.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is that its premium running costs and complex hardware can make repairs and upkeep more expensive than on simpler SUVs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Land Rover Defender?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim gives you a strong starting point with 19-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, partial leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof, and a heated and power-adjustable steering wheel. It also includes remote keyless entry, satellite radio, HD radio, and a 10-speaker Meridian sound system. The X-Dynamic SE adds 20-inch wheels and distinctive styling touches, while the X adds 22-inch wheels, a digital rearview mirror camera, and partial Windsor leather upholstery. The V8 trim adds leather and microsuede upholstery, and the Outbound removes the third row for more cargo space.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged four-cylinder, a mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six, and two supercharged 5.0-litre V8s. The four-cylinder is the least powerful option, while the V8s deliver the strongest performance. All engines use an eight-speed automatic and full-time active four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: The Defender includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Lane-departure and lane-keeping assist can feel overly touchy.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel and an 11.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD radio, and a 10-speaker Meridian stereo system. The setup is straightforward rather than oversized.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configuration returns 12.9 L/100 km city, 10.8 highway, and 12.0 combined. The base four-cylinder in the 90 returns 13.1 L/100 km city, 11.4 highway, and 12.3 combined. Our 110 with the six-cylinder returns 13.8 city, 11.6 highway, and 12.8 combined. The least efficient version returns 16.4 city, 12.7 highway, and 14.7 combined.

Which 2024 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2024 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: S, X-Dynamic SE, X, V8, and Outbound.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the best-value starting point because it already includes a panoramic glass roof, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and the 10-speaker Meridian sound system. If you want the Defender experience without chasing extras, this is the trim to start with.
• X-Dynamic SE: This trim adds 20-inch wheels and distinctive styling touches, so it suits you if you want a more upscale look without jumping straight to the higher trims.
• X: This is the better choice if you want more premium equipment, including 22-inch wheels, a digital rearview mirror camera, and partial Windsor leather upholstery.
• V8: Choose this if you want the strongest performance and the more luxurious leather-and-microsuede cabin.
• Outbound: This is the one to consider if you want the Defender 130 with more cargo space and fewer seating compromises.

The safety package is extensive across the lineup, but the lane-departure and lane-keeping assist can feel overly touchy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Land Rover Defender?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 203 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.76% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $70,265 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $71,237 CAD sits slightly below last year's $82,604 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. A lower current average can also mean future resale gains may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability than on broad market momentum.

If you keep the vehicle well maintained and choose a sought-after configuration, you may be better positioned when it is time to trade or sell. Strong demand for capable luxury SUVs can help support values, but premium ownership costs may still influence buyer interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender comes with an extensive list of standard driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Other standard safety tech includes traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 360-degree parking camera system.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The lane-departure and lane-keeping assist intervention are both a little too touchy, and that can make the system feel intrusive in some situations. Those features can be deactivated with the push of a button.

Should I buy a 2024 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 model adds a host of new features and expands availability of one V8 engine option.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $61,587 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $71,237 CAD average.
• It offers extra practicality through its extended-length body and broad choice of configurations.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $84,090 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $71,237 CAD average.
• It adds more off-road tech and a high-performance OCTA variant.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of updated features and current-market pricing, the 2024 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is lower purchase cost, the 2023 is the better value path.
