Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a compact sedan that leans hard into style and versatility. According to the test-drive summary, Hyundai’s current seventh-generation Elantra moved the nameplate away from its old bargain-basement image and into genuine competition with other compact sedans on substance, especially in how it drives and feels. For 2024, it also receives a mild refresh that adds more style and standard equipment.
That mix makes the 2024 Hyundai Elantra appealing to buyers who want a car that can be comfortable and economical without giving up a more engaging character. The available manual transmission and multiple powertrain options broaden its appeal, while the sporty-looking design helps it stand apart. The trade-off is that the styling may not suit everyone, the base engine is described as underwhelming, and the interior materials can feel cheap, so it is best for shoppers who value character and breadth of choice over outright polish.

The car was a great value for the money I spent. It had plenty of features, and ultimately great MPG and price. I loved that it still has manufactuer warranty and is a certified-pre owned. I did wish it supported Hyundai's digital key, but the BlueLink is another phenomenal feature, other than having to pay every year. For other cars in this class such as the Civic, Corolla, Forte, K4, Impreza etc. It is reasonably priced, only competitive with the K4. If I wanted all of these features in one of those other vehicles especiallt the Civic I would be paying significantly more.

I live the interior and the way it drives. It feels very much my style and I can see myself driving it every day.

I was going to buy a new one except for a design I cannot live with. The passenger side grab bar is unsightly. If something falls on the floor, you wont be able to grab it at a stop light. It is located between the gear shift and the passenger side. Looks like a hospital bed rail. Pass. Drives great. Ive bought 4 Hyundais so I like them but I would rather go for an older model without the bar. Thats what I am looking for now.

| Year-Round High | $26,252 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,255 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.40% |
Prices have softened 12.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 902 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
It is a mixed but appealing choice if you want a compact sedan with more character than the average commuter car. The Elantra earns a user rating of 3/5, and our experts give it 7.33/10 overall.
The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.
It stands out for its style, breadth of powertrain choices, and the way it drives and feels, especially compared with the bargain-focused reputation it once had. The trade-offs are that the styling may not suit everyone and the interior can feel cheap, so you are buying personality and variety more than outright polish.
The current market shows 31.5% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
The 2024 Elantra is positioned as a well-sorted compact sedan with a strong value proposition and a five-year/100,000-kilometre new vehicle warranty. Its expert assessment also points to a car that feels properly developed rather than bargain-basement.
The performance notes suggest a broad range of powertrains, from the efficient base setup to the more engaging turbo and performance versions, which gives you flexibility depending on how you plan to use it. The cost-effectiveness notes also reinforce that Hyundai has built this generation to compete on substance, not just price.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the cheaper trims may leave you wanting more refinement, especially if you plan to keep the car for many years.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Essential, Preferred, and Luxury trims differ most in appearance and equipment, with the base trim missing some of the more upscale touches and the sportier look seen on higher trims.
- Powertrain: The common 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque is adequate around town but weak and loud on the highway; the 1.6-litre turbo-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft is the more engaging choice, while the Elantra N brings much more power.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward braking assist, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, lane following assist, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. From the Preferred grade, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist are added. Luxury trims up to N Line include forward collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, junction turning assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and highway driving assist.
- Infotainment: The Essential and Preferred trims use an 8-inch touchscreen, while Luxury and above get a 10.25-inch display. The smaller screen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the larger one does not; the larger setup adds a digital instrument panel from Luxury up.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 7.7 L/100 km city, 5.9 highway, and 6.9 combined, while the N Line Ultimate is rated at 8.3/6.8/7.6.
Which 2024 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, N Line Ultimate, and N.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra lineup, but it is also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more equipment and polish.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds important safety equipment, including blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist.
- Luxury: This is the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of comfort and technology, including the larger touchscreen, digital instrument panel, Bose audio, wireless charging, and Highway Driving Assist.
- N Line Ultimate: Choose this if you want the more powerful 1.6-litre turbo engine and a firmer, more responsive driving character without going all the way to the full performance model.
- N: This is the enthusiast pick, with far more power and the most serious performance focus, but it also comes with the biggest trade-offs in ride comfort and everyday civility.
The safety package expands as you move up the lineup, so check carefully which driver-assistance features are standard on the trim you are considering.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.
- Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 902 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.40% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,998 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $22,998 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,255 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Elantra has become more attractive to used buyers, which can make it easier to sell if you price it competitively. It also means future sellers may need to be realistic if the market stays soft. If you buy well now, you should have a clearer path to a reasonable resale position later, especially on better-equipped trims.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2024 Elantra received a five star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features in Canada include forward braking assist, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, lane following assist, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor.
There are some caveats to keep in mind: IIHS did not perform all of its standard crash tests, and its newer frontal crash test showed worse results than the 2021 Elantra. Rear passengers also had a higher risk of injury despite the addition of two rear side airbags for 2024, and there are no frontal knee airbags.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.40% compared with last year.
- It adds more style and standard equipment while keeping the Elantra’s broad range of choices.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $20,877 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $22,998 CAD average.
- It offers a wide range of personalities, from efficient transportation to an entertaining budget sports sedan.
The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this generation with more standard equipment and a stronger market position, the 2024 is the better all-round pick. If your priority is saving money and you are comfortable giving up some of the refresh-related updates, the 2023 is the smarter value play.
