What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic Si’s stealthy styling, LED lighting, gloss-black exterior details, red interior accents, and 18-inch matte-black wheels set it apart from the standard Civic sedan. You also get a more expressive cabin with metal pedal covers and an aluminium shift knob.
• Powertrain: The Civic Si uses a high-output turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, rev-matching, a helical limited-slip differential, and front-wheel drive. It is tuned for engagement rather than all-weather traction.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition. The system can feel intrusive in some situations.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch colour touchscreen with onboard navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, text-messaging support, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and HondaLink connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says it should use 7.7 L/100 km in combined driving, and testing returned 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2024 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2024 Honda Civic is offered in 1 trim level: Civic Si.

Here's the short version:

The Civic Si is the clear choice if you want the most engaging version of this model year. It adds the high-output turbocharged engine, manual transmission, limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, and a more distinctive cabin and exterior, making it the best fit for you if driving enjoyment matters most.

Honda Sensing is standard, but its lane-keeping and adaptive cruise functions can feel intrusive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 894 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,441 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $27,441 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,277 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale a little more competitive for sellers. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less room for appreciation later unless demand stays strong.

The Civic’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when you eventually sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Honda Civic safe?

The 2024 Civic earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition.

The main caveat is that the driver-assistance system can feel irritating in real-world use, especially lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control behaviour. The safety hardware is comprehensive, but you may prefer to switch some features off if they distract you.

Should I buy a 2024 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the enthusiast-focused Si formula with a manual transmission and strong driving engagement.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,025 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $27,441 CAD average.
• It adds a refreshed, more flexible lineup with broader powertrain choices.

The bottom line: If you want the better-value enthusiast pick, the 2024 is the one to target. If you are willing to pay more for a newer, refreshed Civic with a broader lineup, the 2025 is worth a look. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2024 and shop for a listing near the low end of the range.
