CarGurus Analysis: 2024 GMC Terrain
Summary
With 140 currently listed for sale and an average price of $28,739 CAD, 41.4% of 2024 GMC Terrain listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 GMC Terrain 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2024 GMC Terrain stands out as a compact SUV that leans more premium and more angular than many rivals. In its second generation, GMC gave it distinct styling inside and out, along with features such as a push-button gear selector, better sound insulation, and a slightly smarter interior. That combination helps the Terrain feel a bit more upscale than its mainstream positioning might suggest, while still keeping the footprint manageable for buyers who want an easy-to-live-with small SUV.
For 2024, the Terrain’s appeal is also tied to its practical equipment and broad feature set. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, many models feature an eight-inch touchscreen, and GMC added important safety technology for this generation, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. The Terrain also offers useful towing capability depending on engine choice, and the diesel engine was no longer part of the lineup by this point. Buyers who value value for money may also appreciate that used second-generation Terrains are generally cheaper than Japanese rivals such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4.
There are trade-offs, though. The Terrain’s cargo space behind the rear seat trails that of its most popular rivals, and some interior materials feel cheap. The standard 1.5-litre turbocharged engine is adequate for most driving, but highway acceleration is not very good, so shoppers who want stronger performance may find it less satisfying. Overall, the 2024 GMC Terrain is distinctive for blending a more upscale feel with solid safety and technology, even if it does not lead the class in space or outright performance.

This car had everything my wife expected. The only thing I would have liked to have on it is the rear camera mirror. This vehicle purchased had to be acceptable to my wife. Because I moved her from a Chevy Traverse down to this due to the mileage she puts on each year. This vehicle is comparable to the Chevy Equinox.

Is the 2024 GMC Terrain a good car?
Yes — the 2024 GMC Terrain earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It stands out as a compact SUV that leans more premium and more angular than many rivals, while still keeping a manageable footprint for everyday use. You also get practical equipment and a broad feature set, including standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a range of safety technology. With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2024 GMC Terrain reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2024 Terrain’s appeal comes from its practical equipment, safety technology, and upscale feel relative to its mainstream positioning. It also benefits from a slightly smarter interior and better sound insulation, which can make day-to-day ownership feel more polished. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a compact SUV with some cheaper interior materials and modest performance may feel less satisfying if you expect class-leading refinement or acceleration.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Terrain?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be patient but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 740 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.86% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $29,936 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 GMC Terrain's resale value?
The current average of $29,936 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,752 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Terrain has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer market than someone who bought earlier. If you plan to resell later, the current pricing trend implies you should be realistic about depreciation and focus on buying well. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2024 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.86% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2024 is a sensible choice if you want the Terrain’s more premium feel, practical equipment, and current-market pricing. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2024 stands out when you want a well-equipped used compact SUV with a softer price trend and strong owner approval.
