Why it stands out
The 2024 Ford Mustang stands out as the last remaining muscle car, and that alone gives it a special place in the market. It returns for a final tour as its primary rivals head to retirement, and this seventh-generation pony car is based on its predecessor but receives numerous upgrades that significantly improve its interior and technology. For buyers who want fun on a budget, it is difficult to beat, and it still delivers a healthy dose of nostalgia.
Its appeal is rooted in the basics that matter most in a Mustang: a powerful engine and great handling, along with excellent value for money. Owners also praise its performance, driving experience, speed, handling, engine sound, and updated technology. The trade-offs are familiar for this kind of car, with a cramped back seat, not much cargo space, and a noisy cabin.

One of the few cars yet available with a manual transmission. Gotta love the V8. Imho, UI for all the tech could be a bit more intuitive and easy to use but, some of this is my need to learn it. Sure wish they still provided a printed owners manual.

Is the 2024 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Ford Mustang earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its performance, driving experience, speed, handling, engine sound, and updated technology. The Mustang also gets credit for its engaging manual transmission option and the comfort and features available in higher trims.
The trade-offs are familiar for this kind of car: a cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and a noisy cabin. That makes it a strong fit if you want a fun, characterful coupe or convertible rather than a practical daily hauler.
With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers a decent number of attractive opportunities.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable and enjoyable over time, with repeated praise for performance, driving experience, and the kind of character that makes it easy to count on as a favourite weekend or enthusiast car. The expert assessment also describes the Mustang as approachable and easy to drive, which supports confidence in day-to-day use.
The available maintenance and ownership information does not point to any major convenience advantage beyond the car’s overall usability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about reliability drama and more about choosing an example that has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin gets a much more modern look, with a glass panel that encloses the digital instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen, while Premium models place the screens in a single enclosure. Base models use two separate screens, so you should check whether the example you’re considering has the interior presentation and materials you want.
- Powertrain: The EcoBoost 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while GT models use a 5.0-litre V8 with 480 hp and 415 lb-ft, or 486 hp and 418 lb-ft with the optional Active Exhaust. Rear-wheel drive is the only drivetrain, and the manual transmission with rev matching is highlighted as especially engaging.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available as options.
- Infotainment: All models get a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, Amazon Alexa integration is included, and a Wi-Fi hotspot comes on all models. A native navigation system and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system are optional.
- Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost is rated at 10.8 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 9.2 combined, while the Performance Pack raises that to 11.1/8.2/9.8. The GT with automatic transmission is rated at 15.8/9.8/13.1, and the manual raises consumption to 16.6/10.2/13.8.
Which 2024 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2024 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the entry point if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest starting price. It gives you the 315-hp turbo four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive, the 13.2-inch touchscreen, and the core tech and safety features, making it the best-value choice for most shoppers.
- EcoBoost Premium: Choose this if you want the same engine and driving character but prefer the more upscale interior presentation with the single-screen enclosure and the extra polish that comes with the Premium cabin treatment.
- GT: This is the one to buy if you want the full muscle-car experience. The 5.0-litre V8 brings a major jump in output and sound, and the manual transmission is standard, so it suits you best if performance matters more than fuel consumption.
- GT Premium: This is the most complete V8 choice if you want the stronger engine plus the more upscale interior and equipment presentation. It makes the most sense if you want the Mustang as both a performance car and a more refined daily driver.
Standard safety equipment is shared across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 235 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.65% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $48,613 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $52,057 CAD sits slightly below last year's $52,929 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Mustang has already moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its lifecycle, which can help future resale by keeping used examples accessible to a wider pool of shoppers. At the same time, the model’s strong enthusiast appeal and distinctive identity should help support demand better than a more ordinary coupe.
If prices continue to settle gradually, sellers may need to be realistic about condition, mileage, and trim to stand out. Well-equipped examples with the right engine and desirable features should remain easier to move than bare-bones cars.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2024 Ford Mustang has not yet been crash tested, but the previous generation on which it is based received five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS in all tests except the driver-side small overlap test, where it scored Acceptable.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available as options.
The main caveat is that the current model’s own crash-test results are not yet available, so you’re relying on the previous generation’s performance as the closest benchmark.
Should I buy a 2024 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2024 brings a final-tour feel for the seventh-generation Mustang, with meaningful interior and technology upgrades over the previous generation.
The bottom line: If you want the most current version of this Mustang generation, the 2024 is the one to target because it combines the updated cabin, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has already softened a bit. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024 is the better pick when you want the newest feel and the strongest mix of performance and tech.
