How much does the 2023 Volvo XC60 cost?

Prices have softened 16.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 a good car?

It’s a compelling choice if you want a plug-in hybrid luxury SUV that balances electric-only commuting with gasoline-powered flexibility, though it comes with some clear compromises. The user rating is 3/5, and the expert rating is 8.00/10.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Its strengths are easy to see in the design, technology, and safety story, while the plug-in hybrid setup makes it especially appealing if you want to ease into PHEV ownership without giving up longer-trip usability. The trade-offs are just as clear: acceleration and braking can feel abrupt, rear-seat legroom is tight, and value may be hard to justify for some shoppers.

With 30.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 reliable?

The 2023 XC60’s appeal is built around a refined, well-developed platform that has benefited from ongoing improvement since the 2018 redesign. The plug-in hybrid powertrain also adds flexibility, letting you handle short trips on electricity and longer drives with the gasoline engine.

The expert evaluation describes the XC60 Recharge as a strong blend of style, performance, and efficiency, and notes that the latest version is a revelation compared with earlier iterations. It also highlights that the model can serve as a practical way to test EV-style ownership before fully committing.

For long-term used ownership, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the added complexity of the plug-in hybrid system fits your driving habits and maintenance expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC60?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, Ultimate, and PHEV-only Polestar Engineered trims each bring different equipment levels, with the Ultimate standing out for its richer cabin materials and more complete feature set. The base setup is less lavish, so you should compare comfort and convenience equipment carefully.
• Powertrain: The XC60 lineup includes B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, plus the Recharge plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, rear electric motor, and an 18.8-kWh battery pack. The Recharge is the most powerful version and offers an estimated 58 km of electric driving range.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is the key driver-assistance suite, combining adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, and lane-centring capability on the highway. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is also included, and the Ultimate trim came with all available safety features.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen with Google Built-in, wireless-style smartphone integration through Android-friendly operation, Apple CarPlay support, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Wi-Fi access. The interface is clean, but some functions are buried in menus.
• Fuel efficiency: The Recharge returned 4.3 L/100 km over a 105-km evaluation route, and it was also recorded at 11.9 L/100 km on a highway-heavy trip in Charge mode.

Which 2023 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC60 is offered in 4 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate, and Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point if you want the XC60’s style, safety reputation, and plug-in hybrid flexibility without stretching to the pricier trims. It makes the most sense if you care more about the core Volvo experience than luxury extras.
• Plus: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value. It should give you more of the XC60’s upscale feel without pushing as far into expensive territory as the Ultimate.
• Ultimate: This is the best-value choice if you want the richest cabin and the most complete feature set. It adds the kind of equipment that makes the XC60 feel properly premium, and it’s the trim that best matches the model’s luxury mission.
• Polestar Engineered: Choose this only if you want the most performance-focused version of the XC60 lineup. It’s the one for shoppers who care most about the sportiest character in the range.

The Ultimate trim includes the full safety feature set, including Pilot Assist and Oncoming Lane Mitigation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 259 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.29% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,575 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $40,575 CAD sits slightly below last year's $48,473 CAD.

That price movement suggests the XC60 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help soften depreciation pressure for someone buying today. If you sell later, you may face a market that still values the XC60’s safety and premium image, but the current downward trend means you should not expect especially strong short-term resale momentum. For a future seller, condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC60 B5 and B6 earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, and the XC60 B5 and B6 mild-hybrids earn top marks across the board from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Pilot Assist is Volvo’s most advanced driver-assistance system, and it combines adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, and lane-centring capability on the highway. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is also included to help reduce the risk of collisions with oncoming traffic or unsafe left turns.

The main caveat is that the PHEV version was not assessed by NHTSA, so the strongest crash-test language applies to the B5 and B6 mild-hybrid versions rather than the Recharge.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.29% compared with last year.
• It offers a compelling plug-in hybrid blend of electric-only commuting and gasoline backup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,247 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $40,575 CAD average.
• It brings updated powertrains and a refreshed infotainment setup.

The bottom line: If you want the most compelling mix of plug-in hybrid flexibility, premium feel, and current-market value, the 2023 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the better price-sensitive alternative.
