There are 412 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating, which points to broad owner satisfaction with some clear compromises. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, sturdy build, and strong resale value, and many also like its off-road capability and rugged versatility. In use, it suits you best if you want a smaller truck that can handle commuting, weekend projects, and outdoor trips without feeling oversized.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the cabin can feel tight, the technology is dated, and fuel economy is not a strong point. Even so, 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a truck you can count on over time. The expert assessment also highlights its hard-earned reputation for bullet-proof reliability and long-term durability.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that age-related compromises in comfort, technology, and efficiency may matter more as the kilometres add up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma ranges from a spartan base standard package to more equipped versions like SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trail Special Edition, and Nightshade Edition. Base-trim trucks are the most stripped-down, while higher trims add more comfort and capability.
• Powertrain: In Canada, you get standard 4WD and a 3.5-litre V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. It is not especially quick, and the truck can feel noisy and a bit vague on paved roads.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera, but lane-keeping assist and rear automatic emergency braking are not included.
• Infotainment: Base trucks use a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get an 8-inch screen. All Tacomas include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, and wireless charging is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 13.0 L/100 km in city driving, 10.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.9 L/100 km combined. Manual-transmission models are rated at 13.8/11.4/12.7 L/100 km, while TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro versions rise slightly to 13.8/11.7/12.9 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: standard package, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trail Special Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• standard package: This is the most basic Tacoma, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the richer equipment found higher up the range.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it moves you beyond the bare-bones setup without pushing you into the more expensive off-road-focused models.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more polished everyday truck with a stronger style focus than the lower trims.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the better pick if you want the Tacoma’s off-road character without going all the way to the top trim.
• Trail Special Edition: This suits you if you want a more distinctive Tacoma with a special-edition flavour.
• Nightshade Edition: Pick this if appearance matters most and you want a more upscale-looking Tacoma.

The safety package starts with Toyota Safety Sense, and higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera.

What is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $48,024 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,787 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Tacoma has moved into a more buyer-friendly phase, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they price competitively. The year-over-year decline also hints that the market is adjusting to newer alternatives, so resale strength may depend more on trim, condition, and equipment than on name recognition alone. Even so, the Tacoma’s reputation and steady demand should help support values better than many rivals.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It balances rugged styling with proven off-road capability and a familiar, reliable formula.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $43,623 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $48,024 CAD average.
• It remains a strong choice for commuting and weekend adventure use.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $52,922 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $48,024 CAD average.
• It brings a ground-up redesign and a more modern platform.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar Tacoma formula at a softer price, the 2023 is the sensible middle ground. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newest design, look to the 2024.
