How much does the 2023 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 3.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 414 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, strong resale value, and rugged build. The review summary also points to its performance and off-road capability, along with the Tacoma’s sturdy, versatile character.

The trade-offs are familiar: poor fuel economy, a cramped back seat, and outdated technology. That fits a truck aimed at buyers who value toughness, reputation, and utility over cabin space and the latest features.

With its default-choice status and ideal size for many situations, it makes the most sense if you want a midsize truck that feels proven rather than trendy. The market still shows healthy interest, with 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary highlights reliability, strong resale value, and a sturdy build, while also describing the Tacoma as rugged and versatile. The expert summary reinforces that reputation by calling out its hard-earned, bullet-proof reliability.

Toyota’s ownership pitch is helped by the fact that the Tacoma is built around straightforward, durable truck hardware rather than a complicated setup. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear may show up in the cabin, technology, and ride comfort before the truck’s core durability becomes a concern.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma ranges from a spartan base model to better-equipped trims with available leather upholstery and soft-touch materials. The TRD Pro adds underbody skid pads, a TRD-tuned suspension, a locking rear differential, 16-inch alloy wheels, a TRD sport exhaust, and unique exterior details, while the base trim is much more basic inside.
• Powertrain: In Canada, you get a standard 3.5-litre V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and a six-speed manual is available. Toyota also sells the Tacoma with standard four-wheel drive in Canada.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera, but lane-keeping assist and rear automatic emergency braking are not included.
• Infotainment: Base trims use a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get an 8-inch unit. All Tacomas include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless charging is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 13.0 L/100 km in city driving, 10.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.9 L/100 km combined. The manual transmission raises those figures to 13.8/11.4/12.7 L/100 km, while TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro versions are slightly higher still.

Which 2023 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: base standard package, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trail Special Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base standard package: This is the simplest Tacoma, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the most basic cabin. It is the least expensive way into the lineup, but you give up the richer materials and equipment found higher up.
• SR5: This is the first step up for shoppers who want a more balanced everyday truck without jumping into the off-road-focused trims. It should suit you if you want a practical middle ground.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more style- and road-oriented version of the Tacoma without going full off-road. It adds a more distinctive personality than the lower trims.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value choice if you want the Tacoma’s core capability and a stronger adventure focus. It suits buyers who plan to use the truck for rougher terrain more often.
• Trail Special Edition: This trim is for shoppers who want a more distinctive, adventure-flavoured Tacoma with a special-edition feel.
• Nightshade Edition: Pick this if you want the Tacoma’s familiar formula with a darker, more appearance-focused look.

The TRD Pro is the most extreme off-road trim, with skid pads, a TRD-tuned suspension, and a locking rear differential, while the base trim is the most stripped-down. Toyota also notes that the Tacoma comes with Toyota Safety Sense, though higher trims add more convenience and parking aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and discounting to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 414 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $47,328 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $48,011 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,777 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Tacoma is holding value reasonably well, but not so tightly that buyers should expect a steep premium to persist forever. For future sellers, that means condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to list.

The Tacoma’s reputation for reliability and strong owner satisfaction should continue to support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Even so, the current trend shows that buyers have become a bit more price-sensitive than they were a year ago.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma was not awarded a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact tests and four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can also add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera.

The main caveat is that the Tacoma does not include lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking, and it trails some rivals in advanced driver-assistance depth.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Tacoma’s rugged image, strong reliability reputation, and off-road focus.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $43,649 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $48,011 CAD average.
• It remains a strong choice for buyers who want a smaller alternative to a full-size truck.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $52,890 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $48,011 CAD average.
• It brings a ground-up redesign and a more modern foundation.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar Tacoma formula, the 2023 is the safer all-around pick. If price matters most, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newest design, look to the 2024.
