What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE starts with fabric upholstery and standard heated front seats, while the XLE adds a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Limited brings the most premium feel with ventilated front seats, memory settings, and heated rear seats, so base-trim shoppers should check whether the features you want are included.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is competent rather than quick, and the AWD setup is standard across the lineup.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, including Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, while the Limited gets a 10.5-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, OTA updates are supported, and the Limited also adds a 12.3-inch driver display and JBL audio.
• Fuel efficiency: The LE AWD is rated at 7.9 L/100 km combined, the XLE AWD at 8.0 L/100 km combined, and the Trail and Limited AWD at 8.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Trail, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the RAV4’s core strengths without stretching your budget. It gets standard AWD, heated front seats, the 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the full safety suite, making it the best-value trim for many shoppers.
• XLE: This is the trim to target if you want a better everyday experience without jumping to the top end. The heated steering wheel and dual-zone climate control make it feel more complete, and it adds useful comfort without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Trail: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking middle trim with its own styling cues and orange interior accents. It also keeps the wireless charging pad, but it is more about appearance and character than true off-road ability.
• Limited: This is the pick if you want the most upscale RAV4 experience. The larger touchscreen, JBL audio, 12.3-inch driver display, ventilated seats, memory functions, and heated rear seats make it the most fully equipped version.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 806 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.68% compared with last year.

What is the 2023 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $34,994 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,957 CAD.

That softer pricing can make the RAV4 easier to buy today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The model’s broad appeal, practical packaging, and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Even so, resale value will likely depend on trim, condition, and how well the vehicle is equipped relative to similar listings.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a refreshed infotainment system and keeps the Top Safety Pick+ result.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,204 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $34,994 CAD average.
• It offers a mature, practical compact SUV with strong everyday usefulness.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,025 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $34,994 CAD average.
• It broadens the drivetrain and trim mix for buyers who want more choice.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and updated tech, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play. If you want a newer model and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the next step up.
