How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-50 cost?

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-50 earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, quality interior, and good performance, especially with the turbo engine. They also like the spacious cargo area and the sleek infotainment system.

The main trade-offs are a stiff ride and hard seats, along with a less effective non-turbo engine. It fits best if you want a crossover that leans into style and driving enjoyment while still supporting an active lifestyle.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the vehicle’s quality and the sense that it can be counted on over time. The expert drive also notes reliable towing capability, which supports the impression of solid day-to-day dependability.

Mazda’s ownership experience should appeal if you want a crossover that feels well put together and confidence-inspiring, though used buyers should still watch for signs of wear in a vehicle that may have been driven hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The entry-level GS-L and GT trims get the 187-horsepower 2.5-litre engine, while GT Turbo and Meridian Edition models add the stronger turbocharged engine. Higher trims also bring features such as the available 20-inch alloy wheels, terracotta upholstery, and the Meridian Edition’s exclusive wheels, all-terrain tires, splash guards, and roof-mounted load platform.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive, or a turbocharged version that boosts output and towing capacity. The turbo engine delivers stronger acceleration, but it asks for premium fuel if you want the full power figures.
• Safety package: Mazda’s driver-assistance suite is standard across the lineup, with blind-spot monitoring included. Base trims miss out on some upgrades, including Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and the surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Every CX-50 gets a 10.25-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. Touchscreen control is also available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.9 highway, and 8.9 combined. The turbo engine is rated at 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.4 combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 4 trim levels: GS-L, GT, GT Turbo, Meridian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the entry point if you want the CX-50’s styling, standard all-wheel drive, and core safety and infotainment features at the lowest price.
• GT: This is the best-value trim if you want the more affordable engine with a better balance of equipment and everyday usability.
• GT Turbo: Choose this if you want the stronger turbocharged engine, extra towing ability, and the more satisfying performance character.
• Meridian Edition: Pick this if you want the most rugged-looking CX-50 with all-terrain tires and the roof-mounted load platform for outdoor gear.

The safety package is generous overall, but the base trim misses some of the more advanced driver-assistance upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 295 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.98% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,749 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $32,749 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,380 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-50 has already absorbed some of its early depreciation, which can help future resale stability if demand stays steady. For a seller, that means the market may be less forgiving than it was a year ago, but not necessarily weak if the vehicle is well equipped and well kept.

Models with the turbo engine and stronger equipment may hold broader appeal because they align with the CX-50’s more premium positioning. A clean history and desirable trim can matter more when shoppers are comparing this model against more value-focused rivals.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s standard driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, and higher trims add Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The surround-view camera and parking sensors are especially useful.

The main caveat is that the CX-50 falls short of Top Safety Pick+ because of some headlight configurations, along with weaker results in night-time pedestrian collision avoidance and the updated side crash test.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It launches the CX-50 with a stylish design, strong turbo performance, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,826 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,749 CAD average.
• It is aimed at more outdoorsy customers and leans harder into rugged everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2023 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and owner satisfaction is strong. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2024 is the better fit for buyers who want the CX-50’s rugged character and can stretch their budget.
