How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-50 cost?

Prices have softened 8.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-50 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, quality interior, and good performance, especially with the turbo engine. They also highlight the spacious cargo area and the sleek infotainment system.

The trade-offs are familiar: the ride can feel stiff, the seats can be hard, and the non-turbo engine is less effective. Even so, the CX-50 fits you well if you want a compact crossover with a more athletic personality and an active-lifestyle focus.

With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience overall, with owners describing the CX-50 as a vehicle they can count on. The expert evaluation also notes reliable towing capability, which supports the impression of solid day-to-day durability.

If you plan to buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well enough to avoid compounding the CX-50’s already premium-leaning running costs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim misses some of the more useful driver-assistance upgrades, while higher trims add features such as Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder is the more affordable and fuel-efficient choice, while the turbocharged version adds stronger acceleration and more towing capability.
• Safety package: Mazda’s driver-assistance suite is broadly standard, including active blind-spot monitoring, with additional features on higher trims such as adaptive cruise control with lane-centring at lower speeds, parking sensors, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. Touchscreen control is available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but Mazda Connect’s native interface can still feel awkward.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in the city, 7.9 on the highway, and 8.9 combined. The turbo engine is rated at 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.4 combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 4 trim levels: GS-L, GT, GT Turbo, Meridian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-50’s core style and standard safety equipment at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the design and everyday usability without paying for the turbo powertrain.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it keeps the more efficient base engine while adding a stronger equipment mix than the entry trim. If you want the CX-50’s style and a more complete feature set without stepping into turbo pricing, this is the one to focus on.
• GT Turbo: Choose this if you want the more powerful 2.5-litre turbo engine and the extra towing capability. It suits you best if driving enjoyment and stronger acceleration matter more than keeping costs down.
• Meridian Edition: This is the most adventure-focused version, with all-terrain tires, splash guards, exclusive wheels, and a roof-mounted load platform. It makes the most sense if you want the CX-50’s rugged look and outdoor-ready hardware.

The safety package is broadly standard, but the base trim misses a handful of the more advanced driver-assistance upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 317 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.51% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,226 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $32,542 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,568 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-50 has already absorbed some of its early depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. A softer current average also means you may not see dramatic resale gains in the near term unless demand strengthens.

For you as an owner, the key is that the CX-50’s premium positioning and strong styling can support buyer interest, but its value story still depends on how well it holds up against similarly priced rivals.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The Mazda CX-50 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda gives the CX-50 a generous standard driver-assistance package, including active blind-spot monitoring. Higher trims add Traffic Jam Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centring at lower speeds, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.

The main caveat is that the base trim misses some of those upgrades, and the IIHS result falls short of Top Safety Pick+ because of headlight configurations and weaker results in night-time pedestrian collision avoidance and the updated side crash test.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its stylish design, fun-to-drive character, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $36,917 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,542 CAD average.
• It shifts toward a more rugged, outdoorsy character with standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the better value proposition, the 2023 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model with a more rugged focus, the 2024 is worth a look.
