Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-50 earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, quality interior, and good performance, especially with the turbo engine. They also like the spacious cargo area and the overall sense that it feels well put together. On the trade-off side, the user feedback points to a stiff ride and hard seats, while the non-turbo engine is seen as less effective.

It fits best if you want a crossover with a more engaging personality, a bit more rear-seat room, and practical cargo space for active use. The market also shows 33.4% good or great deals, which means there are still worthwhile listings to find.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with praise for its quality interior and overall confidence in day-to-day use. The expert assessment also notes that the turbo powertrain delivers smooth acceleration and that improved powertrain cooling should support reliable towing capability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the ride, seating comfort, and infotainment frustrations will suit you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GS-L and GT use the 187-horsepower 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, while the GT Turbo and Meridian Edition add the stronger turbocharged engine. Higher trims also bring a more upscale cabin, and the Meridian Edition adds exclusive wheels, all-terrain tires, splash guards, and a roof-mounted load platform.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre engine is paired with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, while the turbo version adds stronger acceleration and higher towing capacity. Fuel consumption is 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.9 highway, and 8.9 combined for the base engine, and 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway, and 9.4 combined for the turbo.
• Safety package: Mazda’s standard driver-assistance suite includes active blind-spot monitoring. Higher trims add Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Every CX-50 gets a 10.25-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. Touchscreen control is available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but Mazda Connect itself still relies heavily on console controls.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is the better choice if you want lower running costs, while the turbo trades efficiency for stronger performance and towing ability.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 4 trim levels: GS-L, GT, GT Turbo, Meridian Edition.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the entry point if you want the CX-50’s styling, standard all-wheel drive, and core safety tech without paying for the turbo upgrade. It makes the most sense if you value the design and equipment more than outright performance.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it keeps the standard engine but adds the more appealing everyday balance of equipment and price. If you want the CX-50 experience without stretching into the pricier turbo models, this is the one to focus on.
• GT Turbo: Choose this if you want the stronger engine, smoother passing power, and the higher towing rating. It suits you best if performance matters more than fuel consumption.
• Meridian Edition: This is the pick if you want the most rugged-looking CX-50 with all-terrain tires and adventure-focused extras. It is the most specialised choice in the lineup.

The safety package is generous, but some features are reserved for higher trims rather than the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-50?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 302 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.92% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,612 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $32,616 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,208 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-50 has moved into a more buyer-friendly position, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar immediately. If you buy well now, you may benefit from the lower entry price, but resale gains will depend on how strongly the market continues to value this model’s styling and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-50 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s standard safety suite includes active blind-spot monitoring, and higher trims add Traffic Jam Assist, front and rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The top-rated headlight configuration is standard in Canada, but the model falls short of Top Safety Pick+ because of some headlight configurations, night-time pedestrian collision avoidance results, and the updated side crash test.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It launches the CX-50 with a more adventurous design, standard safety tech, and a clear active-lifestyle focus.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $37,664 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,616 CAD average.
• It adds a more rugged second-year identity with standard all-wheel drive and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2023 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and owner satisfaction is strong. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and a slightly more refined second-year package, the 2024 is the alternative to consider.
