Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Honda Pilot earns a 4.42/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, comfortable ride, and room for up to 8 passengers. The Pilot also stands out for its stylish design and family-friendly practicality, with plenty of cargo space and useful convenience features. In use, it is positioned as a comfortable, well-equipped family vehicle with an off-road-capable TrailSport model.

The trade-offs are that fuel economy is only average and some drivers felt the engine performance was lacking, especially for torque and efficiency. The infotainment system also drew criticism from some owners for being underwhelming compared with rivals.

With 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as spacious, comfortable, and solid for families, which points to a vehicle people can count on for everyday use. The feedback also suggests a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, especially those prioritising practicality and long-term family duty.

The Pilot’s standard all-wheel-drive setup and family-focused tuning support confident day-to-day use, while the expert assessment highlights a vehicle built for comfort and versatility rather than drama. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some drivers have already flagged average fuel economy and modest engine performance as ongoing compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Pilot?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gives you the redesigned Pilot’s rugged look and standard heated front seats and heated steering wheel, but the more expensive trims add more of the convenience and family-friendly equipment that make this SUV easier to live with.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard i-VTM4 all-wheel drive in Canada. It is tuned for comfort rather than sporty driving, and the TrailSport adds 2.5 cm of ground clearance and all-terrain tires.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on all trims and includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, traffic-jam assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor. Front and rear parking sensors are added on EX-L and higher trims, while the Touring trim adds surround-view and multi-view camera systems.
• Infotainment: The larger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charger arrive at the EX-L trim. USB ports in every row, a multi-view camera system, a head-up display, and a fully digital instrument panel are reserved for Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 12.4 L/100 km city, 9.3 highway, and 11.0 combined for the AWD model. The TrailSport is rated at 13.0 L/100 km city, 10.3 highway, and 11.8 combined, while the Touring is rated at 12.7 city, 9.4 highway, and 11.2 combined.

Which 2023 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Pilot is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the redesigned Pilot’s standard AWD setup and core family-hauling capability. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and do not need the extra convenience and tech upgrades found higher up.
• EX-L: This is the value leader. It adds leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener via HomeLink, second-row sunshades, the larger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger, making it the best all-round choice for most buyers.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you genuinely plan to explore moderately challenging off-road terrain. It adds the off-road hardware and capability to match its rugged styling, but it is not the best pick if you will mostly stay on pavement.
• Touring: This is the most feature-rich trim, with USB ports in every row, a multi-view camera system, a head-up display, a fully digital instrument panel, navigation, Bose premium audio, and remote monitor features. It suits you if you want the most complete Pilot experience.

Front and rear parking sensors are added on EX-L and higher trims, while Touring also gets surround-view and multi-view camera systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 165 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $48,230 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $48,299 CAD sits slightly below last year's $52,141 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. A lower current average often signals that buyers have more leverage, which can slow appreciation in the near term. If demand remains steady, well-kept examples should still hold appeal because the Pilot’s family-friendly layout and strong practicality are easy to market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

EX-L and higher trims add front and rear parking sensors, while Touring adds surround-view and multi-view camera systems.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It is fully redesigned for 2023 with a more rugged appearance, more power, and an off-road-capable TrailSport model.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Pilot with stronger styling, more capability, and a broad family-friendly feature set, the 2023 is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby model years, but the 2023 gives you the most up-to-date version of this generation’s design and equipment.
