How much does the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 12.43% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,422 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.33/5 user-rated truck with an expert rating of 7.83/10. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the Sierra 1500 for its stylish design, advanced technology, comfortable ride, and improved interior. The broad range of options also stands out, especially if you want a truck that feels more upscale and versatile than purely utilitarian.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the cabin can feel overly tech-heavy for a truck, and cabin quality still trails some rivals. That matters most if you want a simpler work-focused pickup rather than a luxury-leaning one.

In practical terms, the Sierra 1500 makes the most sense if you want a full-size pickup that can double as a comfortable daily driver while still offering serious capability. With 36.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as stylish, comfortable, and well equipped, and they also point to the improved interior and advanced technology as reasons it feels like a dependable long-term choice. The expert drive notes also support that impression by highlighting the truck’s strong powertrain spread and composed road manners.

The diesel powertrain is described as lively and well managed by the 10-speed automatic, which helps it feel confident in everyday driving. GMC also backs the Sierra 1500 with a five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some owners have raised concerns about engine problems, so a careful service-history check is wise.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pro is the simplest version and keeps the older, more straightforward infotainment layout, but it misses some basic conveniences such as a tilt and telescoping steering column. Higher trims add more comfort and luxury, with the Denali Ultimate bringing nearly every available feature.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre Duramax turbocharged inline-six diesel, a 5.3-litre V8, or a 6.2-litre V8. The diesel is the most efficient setup, while the V8s trade fuel economy for stronger output.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and GM’s Teen Driver system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, GM’s Safety Alert seat, and Super Cruise.
• Infotainment: The Pro uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets a 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google-connected apps.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax turbo diesel with RWD returns 10.1 L/100 km in city driving, 8.1 on the highway, and 9.2 combined. With 4WD, it returns 10.7 city, 8.7 highway, and 9.8 combined. The gas turbo-four returns 12.7 city, 11.2 highway, and 12.0 combined. The 5.3-litre V8 returns 14.3 city, 11.2 highway, and 12.9 combined. The 6.2-litre V8 with mud terrain tires returns 16.7 city, 14.0 highway, and 15.5 combined.

Which 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Sierra’s core capability and the simpler 7-inch infotainment setup. It’s the least complicated choice, but you give up some everyday convenience features.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Elevation: This trim builds on the SLE and opens the door to more available options and packages, so it suits you if you want a more personalised build.
• SLT: This is the first trim that really leans into comfort, with leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, memory settings, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented setup, including 4WD, skid plates, a lifted suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and an upgraded air filter.
• AT4X: This is the more serious trail-focused version, with AEV partnership hardware, steel bumpers, an integrated front winch, 33-inch mud-terrain tyres, upgraded dampers, and locking differentials.
• Denali: This is the luxury step-up, adding unique styling, a Bose premium audio system, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and a bed-view camera.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top luxury choice if you want nearly every available feature, including full-grain leather, massaging front seats, a 12-speaker Bose system, 22-inch wheels, and the integrated Kicker sound system.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, and the Denali Ultimate gets every available driver-assistance feature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,422 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,725 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $49,725 CAD sits slightly below last year's $56,786 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more heavily on trim, condition, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Higher-spec versions with desirable features should remain easier to move than stripped-down examples, especially if they have strong service records. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and GM’s Teen Driver system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, and GM’s Safety Alert seat.

Super Cruise is also available on higher trims, giving you hands-free highway driving and even hands-free lane changes with a turn-signal tap. The main caveat is that several of the most advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds the Denali Ultimate, which pushes the Sierra further into luxury-truck territory.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $46,825 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $49,725 CAD average.
• It introduced the major makeover and broadened the lineup with Denali Ultimate and AT4X.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $54,905 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $49,725 CAD average.
• It broadens appeal with flexible configurations and a fuel-efficient diesel.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of luxury, features, and current pricing, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path, while the 2024 makes sense if you want to pay more for a newer model-year alternative.
