How much does the 2023 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 10.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Ford Escape earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating.

The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, interior comfort, and modern features, and they also highlight its spaciousness, smooth handling, and commendable fuel efficiency. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a stylish compact crossover that feels easy to live with every day.

The trade-offs are clear: it can feel a bit cramped, and the cabin brings cheap-feeling materials along with too much wind noise. Even so, it suits you well if you want an upscale-looking, tech-forward crossover with available extra passing speed.

With 38.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still meaningful market choice if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners also describe it as reliable, dependable, and a vehicle they can count on, with the overall tone of the reviews pointing to trouble-free everyday use. The expert evaluation also notes that the Escape’s interior materials look like they should hold up well over years of abuse.

Ford’s ownership experience is helped by the fact that the Escape is built around a mainstream, well-supported platform, and the available powertrains are straightforward rather than exotic. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is more about wear-and-tear concerns and value than about any obvious durability red flag.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Escape?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The trim ladder starts with Active, then moves through ST-Line, ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite. The base trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add a more upscale look and more equipment.
• Powertrain: You can get a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, or a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The stronger engine is reserved for higher trims and is paired with AWD only.
• Safety package: Every Escape comes with Co-Pilot360, which includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centring technology, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Lower trims use an 8-inch touchscreen, while all trims can be equipped with a 13.2-inch screen; it is standard on Platinum and ST-Line Elite. Sync 4 supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wi-fi hotspot with subscription.
• Fuel efficiency: The ST-Line Elite is rated at 10.2 L/100 km in the city, 7.6 on the highway, and 9.1 combined. A 1.5-litre FWD version returns 8.9 city, 6.9 highway, and 8.0 combined.

Which 2023 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Escape is offered in 5 trim levels: Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite.

Here's the short version:

• Active: This is the entry point if you want the Escape’s core design, standard safety tech, and the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the model’s basics without paying for the more expensive powertrain or screen upgrades.
• ST-Line: This is the trim to watch if you want a sportier look without jumping too far up the price ladder. It adds a more style-focused personality and is the best-value starting point for many shoppers.
• ST-Line Select: This is the first trim with the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, so it’s the one to choose if stronger passing power matters most to you.
• Platinum: This trim leans into a more upscale feel and gets the larger 13.2-inch screen as standard, making it a good fit if you want a more premium cabin experience.
• ST-Line Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, pairing the stronger engine with the larger screen and the richest feature set. It suits you best if you want the top-spec Escape and are comfortable paying for it.

Co-Pilot360 is standard across the range, while Co-Pilot360 2.0 is the upgrade to look for if you want the more advanced driver-assist features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right one.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 577 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.57% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,494 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $26,647 CAD sits slightly below last year's $29,796 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Escape has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and planning to sell later. For a future seller, the softer market means you may not see rapid appreciation, but it can also make the vehicle easier to position competitively if you keep it in good condition.

Because the current average is still close to the year-round low, there may be less downside left than there was a year ago. That can support resale stability if demand stays steady and you buy at the right price.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape safe?

The 2023 Ford Escape earns five-star ratings in frontal- and side-crash tests, and four-star ratings in the rollover test from NHTSA. It also received a Marginal score in the IIHS updated side-impact test, while earning Good in the rest of the IIHS evaluations.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s standard Co-Pilot360 suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. That means you get a broad set of driver aids even on the lower trims.

If you move up to Co-Pilot360 2.0, you add adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centring technology, and a surround-view camera. The main caveat is the IIHS side-impact result, which is weaker than the rest of the Escape’s safety performance.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong tech, available power, and a major 2023 refresh.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $28,615 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $26,647 CAD average.
• It carries over the 2023 formula with no major changes.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2023 is the smarter buy because it already reflects the refreshed design and comes at a lower average price. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2023 also gives you more room to find a deal without giving up the Escape’s core strengths.
