Is the 2023 Ford Bronco reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert road test also highlights that it feels composed and reassuring on pavement, while still delivering the rugged capability the nameplate is known for. Ford’s factory warranty coverage on the most extreme versions also helps support confidence in ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a Bronco’s specialised hardware and off-road focus can mean higher running costs and more wear if it has been used hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Bronco?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim has a more bare-bones look with steel wheels and little adornment, while higher trims add more personality and equipment. The Mid package is not available on the Base model, so feature gaps matter if you want more convenience and driver assistance.
• Powertrain: You get a choice of three engines, starting with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder, then a 2.7-litre V6, and finally the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 in the Raptor. The base engine is described as more than adequate, while the V6 options suit heavier or more demanding use.
• Safety package: All Broncos come with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High and Luxe packages add more advanced features.
• Infotainment: Most Broncos come with an eight-inch touchscreen, and you may want the available 12-inch display for easier use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Ford’s SYNC 4 and FordPass Connect.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates the four-cylinder engine at as little as 11.6 L/100 km in combined driving and as high as 14.3 L/100 km depending on equipment. The 2.7-litre V6 is rated between 12.0 and 14.1 L/100 km, while the Raptor is estimated at 15.3 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Bronco is offered in 9 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Bronco Outer Banks, Bronco Badlands, Heritage Edition, Bronco Wildtrak, Heritage Limited Edition, and Raptor.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the most stripped-back Bronco, so it suits you if you want the core off-road character and plan to build from there. It is the least expensive entry point, but it also misses out on the Mid package.
• Big Bend: This is a sensible step up if you want a more rounded Bronco without jumping too far up the price ladder. It should suit shoppers who want a better balance of equipment and value.
• Black Diamond: This is the best-value trim if you want a strong middle ground between comfort and off-road ability. The source specifically points to it as a good compromise, and it is the trim most worth considering if you want capability without going all the way to the pricier versions.
• Bronco Outer Banks: This trim is aimed more at shoppers who want a more polished, style-forward Bronco. It fits you if you care about the rugged look but want a more upscale feel.
• Bronco Badlands: This is the better choice if you want a more serious off-road focus. It suits buyers who plan to use the Bronco’s hardware more aggressively.
• Heritage Edition: This trim leans into nostalgia with its throwback styling details and plaid seat upholstery. It is a good fit if you want the Bronco’s capability with a more distinctive retro look.
• Bronco Wildtrak: This is for shoppers who want a more adventurous, higher-spec Bronco with a stronger emphasis on capability and presence.
• Heritage Limited Edition: This is the more capable, more exclusive take on the Heritage theme. It suits you if you want the nostalgic styling with added desirability.
• Raptor: This is the top-end choice for buyers who want the most extreme Bronco experience. It is the most over-the-top version and is best for shoppers who want maximum capability and don’t mind the cost.

The Mid package is not available on the Base trim, while the High and Luxe packages add more advanced safety equipment on supporting trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Bronco?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 452 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.31% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,285 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Bronco's resale value?

The current average of $49,673 CAD sits slightly below last year's $56,005 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face more competition if the market stays well supplied. If you buy at the right price now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later. The Bronco’s strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want its off-road image and versatility.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Bronco safe?

The 2023 Ford Bronco earns four-star ratings in frontal crash protection and rollover protection from NHTSA, and the IIHS awarded it Good ratings in all crashworthiness tests except head restraints and seats, where it received an Acceptable rating.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

All Bronco models come standard with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system. The Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.

The Bronco’s safety feature set is solid, but advanced driver assistance is not standard, so you should pay close attention to trim and package content.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds heritage-inspired variants while keeping the Bronco’s rugged, versatile appeal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,421 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $49,673 CAD average.
• It offers broad model choice and strong everyday drivability.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $53,219 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $49,673 CAD average.
• It adds a standard 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price movement, owner satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2023 is the strongest all-round pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value path.
