Is the 2023 Ford Bronco a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Ford Bronco earns a 4.27/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating, which points to strong overall appeal. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its off-road capability, rugged design, comfort, and features. The Bronco also stands out for its multiple body styles and broad range of configurations, which makes it easier to match to different needs.

The trade-offs are clear: fuel efficiency is below average, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, its trail-ready character and versatility make it a strong fit if you want something that can handle both daily driving and serious off-road use.

With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2023 Ford Bronco reliable?

Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, with owners describing the Bronco as something they can count on for off-road capability, comfort, and features. The expert road test also highlights that the Bronco’s driver-assistance systems function without annoying false alarms, which supports the impression of well-sorted day-to-day usability.

Ford’s warranty coverage on the most extreme factory-equipped versions is another ownership plus, especially if you value long-term confidence in the vehicle’s hardware. For used buyers, the main risk is that the Bronco’s rugged design and capability can come with higher running costs and more compromises than a conventional SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Bronco?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the bare-bones Base trim to the Raptor, with the Base standing out for its simpler, more primitive look and the Raptor for its wide stance, elevated height, and massive tyres. The Heritage Edition adds retro styling touches, while the Heritage Limited Edition is described as even more capable. The Black Diamond trim is called a good middle ground, so it may be the best-value choice if you want a balance of comfort and off-road ability.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.3-litre four-cylinder, an optional 2.7-litre V6, or the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 in the Raptor. The four-cylinder is described as more than adequate for most drivers, while the V6 suits heavier four-door models and the Raptor is the excess-oriented choice.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, but it is not available on the Base model.
• Infotainment: Most Broncos come with an eight-inch touchscreen, while a 12-inch display is available and recommended for easier use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Ford’s SYNC 4 and FordPass Connect.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates the four-cylinder at as little as 11.6 L/100 km and as high as 14.3 L/100 km, while the 2.7-litre V6 is rated between 12.0 and 14.1 L/100 km. The Raptor is estimated at 15.3 L/100 km.

Which 2023 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Bronco is offered in 9 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Bronco Outer Banks, Bronco Badlands, Heritage Edition, Bronco Wildtrak, Heritage Limited Edition, and Raptor.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest Bronco, with steel wheels and a stripped-back look. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and plan to build from there, but it misses some of the convenience and safety upgrades found higher up.
• Big Bend: This trim adds a bit more everyday appeal while staying relatively accessible. It suits you if you want a more rounded Bronco without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Black Diamond: This is the best-value pick if you want a strong middle ground. It is specifically called out as a good balance between lower trims and the more expensive off-road-focused versions.
• Bronco Outer Banks: This trim leans more toward style and comfort than the more rugged variants. It is a good fit if you want Bronco character with a more polished feel.
• Bronco Badlands: This is the more serious off-road choice for shoppers who want extra capability. It is the trim to focus on if trail use matters more than pavement comfort.
• Heritage Edition: This trim adds nostalgic styling with a white grille, roof, wheels, and plaid seat upholstery. It is best if the retro look is a major part of the appeal.
• Bronco Wildtrak: This trim sits toward the more capable end of the range and suits buyers who want a stronger off-road focus without going all the way to the Raptor.
• Heritage Limited Edition: This is the more capable heritage-themed model. It is for you if you want the retro appearance with a stronger capability story.
• Raptor: This is the top-end, high-output choice with the most extreme stance and hardware. It is the one to buy if you want the most powerful and most aggressive Bronco.

For safety, note that the Mid package is not available on the Base model, while the High and Luxe packages add more advanced driver-assistance features on supporting trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Bronco?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough pricing softness to create opportunities.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 449 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.20% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,250 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Bronco's resale value?

The current average of $49,277 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,493 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Bronco has cooled from its earlier peak, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you are planning to sell soon. A softer market can mean more competition from similar listings, so future sellers may need to price carefully to stand out. Even so, the Bronco’s strong desirability and broad appeal should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Bronco safe?

The 2023 Ford Bronco earns four-star ratings for frontal crash protection and three-star ratings for rollover protection from NHTSA, while the IIHS awarded it Good scores in all crashworthiness tests except head restraints and seats, where it received Acceptable.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system. The Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, and the Bronco’s crash-test results are only partial from NHTSA.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds heritage-inspired variants and keeps the Bronco’s broad, highly configurable lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,768 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $49,277 CAD average.
• It offers serious off-road ability with strong everyday drivability.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $53,581 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $49,277 CAD average.
• It adds a standard 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around choice if you want the Bronco’s rugged personality, broad trim range, and softer pricing than the 2024. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a look; if you want the newest tech, the 2024 is the better path.
