What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum is the most straightforward entry point, while higher trims add more upscale touches such as Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the most polished cabin, the upper trims are the ones to focus on.
• Powertrain: The 2022 XC60 uses new B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, both built around a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt electrical system. The B6 adds an electric supercharger, and the plug-in hybrid remains available if you want more electrification.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available in an option package that combines adaptive cruise control and automated lane centring.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, OTA software updates, and full iPhone compatibility.
• Fuel efficiency: The base B5 powertrain is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined, while the B6 is rated at 9.9 L/100 km combined. The plug-in hybrid is rated at 4.0 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined and 9.3 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 7 trim levels: Momentum, Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, Inscription, R-Design, and Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the most affordable way into the XC60 lineup, and it gives you the core Volvo experience with the updated styling, Android-based infotainment, and standard safety equipment. It makes the most sense if you want the XC60’s fundamentals without stretching for extras.
• Momentum: The B6 Momentum is the better pick if you want stronger performance than the base mild hybrid while staying near the lower end of the range. It is the best-value choice if you care more about power and smoothness than luxury add-ons.
• R-Design: This trim adds a sportier look and feel, and it suits you if you want the XC60’s refined driving character with a more expressive appearance. It is a good middle ground for shoppers who want more personality without going all the way to the top trims.
• Inscription: This is the trim to target if cabin comfort matters most, because it adds Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It is the most upscale choice among the non-performance trims.
• Inscription: The plug-in hybrid Inscription is the right fit if you want the XC60’s luxury focus with electrified driving capability. It is the trim to consider if you value efficiency and short electric-only trips.
• R-Design: The plug-in hybrid R-Design blends the more expressive styling with the added benefits of the Recharge powertrain. Choose it if you want a sportier look and plug-in hybrid capability in one package.
• Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-oriented plug-in hybrid, with more power plus Öhlins adjustable dampers, Akebono brakes, and a front strut bar. It is the enthusiast pick, but it sits at the top of the range and is best for buyers who specifically want the most performance-focused XC60.

Volvo’s driver assistance system is available as part of an option package, so check whether a used example includes it if that matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 206 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,333 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $34,334 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,651 CAD.

That price drop suggests the XC60 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, you may be entering at a more favourable point in the cycle than someone who purchased earlier. Strong demand for well-equipped luxury SUVs can still help support values, especially for examples with desirable trims and good maintenance records.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 hasn’t received current crash-test ratings, but the similar 2021 model received the IIHS’s highest Top Safety Pick+ rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available in an option package and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring. The main caveat is that the current model year does not have its own published crash-test results.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and Android-based infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,674 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,334 CAD average.
• It offers luxury appointments, strong safety, and a value-focused feel.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $39,591 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $34,334 CAD average.
• It brings plug-in hybrid appeal with electric-only driving and reduced range anxiety.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the updated powertrains and tech without moving up to the pricier 2023. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 remains the value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you specifically want the plug-in hybrid experience.

How does the 2022 Volvo XC60 compare to the 2022 BMW X3?

Our experts score the 2022 Volvo XC60 7.8/10 and the 2022 BMW X3 7.8/10. The XC60 and X3 are closely matched overall, but they appeal in slightly different ways. The Volvo leans more toward comfort, quietness, and a premium, relaxed driving feel, while the BMW offers a marginally stronger engine output and a slightly larger listing pool. If you value a calmer luxury experience and strong safety focus, the XC60 is the better fit; if you want a more traditional sport-luxury feel, the X3 is worth a look.
