What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum is the most straightforward choice, while higher trims add more luxury and equipment. The Inscription trim level gets Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the B6 R-Design test car showed how the sportier trim can add visual flair with aluminium mesh speaker grilles and textured seats.
• Powertrain: You get B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, both using a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt electrical system and integrated starter generator. The B6 adds an electric supercharger, and the plug-in hybrid remains available for buyers who want more electrification.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available in an option package and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring.
• Infotainment: The XC60 uses a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, and over-the-air software updates. Wireless smartphone integration is not mentioned here.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined, while the B6 is rated at 9.9 L/100 km combined. The plug-in hybrid is rated at 4.0 Le/100 km combined and 9.3 L/100 km in hybrid mode.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 6 trim levels: B5 Momentum, B6 Momentum, B6 R-Design, B6 Inscription, T8 Recharge Inscription, T8 Recharge R-Design, and T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• B5 Momentum: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the XC60’s core luxury, safety, and all-wheel-drive hardware without stretching for extras.
• B6 Momentum: Choose this if you want the stronger mild-hybrid powertrain and a bit more performance while staying close to the value end of the range.
• B6 R-Design: This is the best-value pick if you want a sportier look and feel, plus the same smooth mild-hybrid power delivery that impressed in testing.
• B6 Inscription: Pick this if you want the more upscale cabin treatment, including the Nappa leather upholstery and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• T8 Recharge Inscription: This suits you if you want plug-in hybrid capability and a more efficiency-minded luxury setup.
• T8 Recharge R-Design: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a sportier presentation.
• T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-focused choice, with more output, adjustable dampers, Akebono brakes, and a front strut bar.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 222 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.27% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,230 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $35,247 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,606 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you may need to be realistic about depreciation if you own the vehicle for only a short period. On the other hand, the XC60’s premium positioning and strong demand for well-equipped luxury SUVs can help support values better than some mainstream alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, and the similar 2021 model received a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available in an option package and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring. The main caveat is that the published crash-test results are for the similar previous model year rather than this one.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and Android-based infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,386 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $35,247 CAD average.
• It offers a well-judged, practical luxury crossover with strong safety and broad appeal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $40,575 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,247 CAD average.
• It adds plug-in hybrid flexibility for electric-only commuting and longer-trip versatility.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the updated powertrains and infotainment without moving into the pricier 2023 plug-in hybrid focus. If price matters most, the 2021 is the smarter value play; if you want PHEV capability, the 2023 is the better fit.
