What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline are the three trims offered in Canada. The base Trendline is the most pared-back, while Comfortline and Highline add more standard technology and equipment, so you should check carefully for the feature gaps that matter most to you.
• Powertrain: You get a single 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. It is front-wheel drive only, and the expert review notes that the powertrain can feel a bit laggy and jumpy in stop-and-go driving.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition are standard. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist are offered from Comfortline upward.
• Infotainment: Trendline uses a 6.5-inch Volkswagen MIB2 system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, Bluetooth, two USB-C ports, and an SD card multimedia interface. Comfortline and Highline get an 8-inch infotainment system, and Highline adds a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 7.7 L/100 km city and 5.7 L/100 km highway for the automatic, and 8.0 L/100 km city and 5.5 L/100 km highway for the manual.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 3 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the value entry point, and it still brings the core Jetta formula plus standard safety tech and a usable infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience and display upgrades.
• Comfortline: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the more desirable tech and safety upgrades, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. It also gets the 8-inch infotainment system, making it the sweet spot for equipment and everyday usability.
• Highline: This is the most upscale choice, with the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, an 8-inch touchscreen-navigation system, and a more premium interior presentation. It suits you best if you want the most polished Jetta experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package starts with forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition on all trims, while the more advanced driver-assistance features begin at Comfortline.

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some leverage if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 252 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.92% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,681 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $21,703 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,569 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the car is especially well equipped or well kept. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside exposure later because the model has already adjusted downward.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta falls short of a Top Safety Pick crash safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to an Acceptable score in the updated side crash test. Headlights are also rated Marginal to Poor depending on the trim. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2022 Jetta a five-star overall safety rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition are standard in Canada. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist are offered from Comfortline upward.

Travel Assist is not a hands-free system, and it may need extra guidance on sweeping highway curves. That caveat is worth keeping in mind if you want the most polished driver-assistance experience.
