What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR starts with an 8-inch touchscreen, while Limited and Platinum move up to a 14-inch display. Higher trims also bring more premium materials and amenities, and the TRD Pro stands apart with retro “TOYOTA” badging and technical camo details.
• Powertrain: You get a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 on most trims, while the hybrid i-Force Max adds an electric motor for more output. The V6 is described as smooth and consistent, and the hybrid uses a 1.87-kWh battery.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road sign assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on most SR and SR5 models and standard on all other trim levels.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models. SR and SR5 use an 8-inch touchscreen, while Limited and above get a 14-inch screen. Upper grades also add a 12-speaker JBL audio system, Toyota Connected services, and Drive Connect.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard V6 is rated at 11.8 L/100 km combined in rear-wheel-drive form and 12.2 L/100 km combined with four-wheel drive. The hybrid powertrain is also rated at 12.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is offered in 5 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics with the standard 8-inch touchscreen and the core Tundra powertrain. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the new-generation truck.
• SR5: Toyota identifies this as one of the core trims, so it should be the one to watch if you want the best balance of equipment and volume availability.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 14-inch touchscreen and a more upscale cabin feel without jumping all the way to luxury territory.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want a more premium truck, including the 14-inch display and available head-up display, plus the 1794 package if luxury is your priority.
• TRD Pro: This is the flagship, with FOX shocks, aluminium skid plates, and the most off-road-focused hardware in the lineup.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on most SR and SR5 models and standard on all other trim levels.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 179 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $46,944 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $46,944 CAD sits slightly below last year's $53,758 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The Tundra’s loyal following and durability reputation should help support demand, but the current price trend shows that buyers are still sensitive to value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Star Safety System is also standard, with enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart-stop technology.

You also get eight airbags, LATCH connectors on the outboard second-row seats, child-protector rear door locks, a window-lockout control, a tyre-pressure monitor system, hill-start control, drive-start control, and active headrests for the driver and front passenger. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on most SR and SR5 models and standard on all other trim levels.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings an all-new generation with a redesigned look, modern powertrain, and broad updates.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,744 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $46,944 CAD average.
• It suits buyers who value a proven, simpler truck over newer tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $50,829 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $46,944 CAD average.
• It keeps the newer-generation formula while leaning into more modern efficiency and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the biggest step forward from the old Tundra formula, the 2022 is the key year to target. If price matters most, the 2021 can still make sense for buyers who prefer a simpler, proven truck and are willing to give up some of the newer-generation polish.
