Generally — the 2022 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, fuel economy, and off-road capability, and they also like its resale value and durable feel. What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base truck includes 16-inch steel wheels, a manually sliding rear window, air conditioning, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a trio of USB ports, a 4.2-inch colour display, a 7-inch touchscreen, and Toyota Safety Sense. Higher trims add features such as alloy wheels, heated front seats, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, leather seating, blind spot monitoring, and a power-sliding rear window.
• Powertrain: In Canada, you get a 3.5-litre V6 with 278 hp and standard 4WD, plus a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual. It is capable, but it can feel slow to build speed on the highway.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher packages add an 8-inch screen and SiriusXM satellite radio. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and the interface is simple and easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with 4WD and a manual transmission returns 13.8 L/100 km in city driving, 11.4 L/100 km on the highway, and 12.7 L/100 km combined. With the automatic, it uses 13.0 L/100 km city, 10.5 L/100 km highway, and 11.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: standard/Trail, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-road, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• standard/Trail: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tacoma formula with the standard safety suite, basic infotainment, and the essential truck hardware. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and do not need extra comfort or convenience features.
• SR5: This adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, heated front seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen. It is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds everyday comfort and usability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• TRD Sport: This trim brings 17-inch alloy wheels, a TRD-tuned sport suspension, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped shift knob, wireless device charging, and a power-sliding rear window. It suits you if you want a more polished daily driver with extra convenience.
• TRD Sport Premium: This version builds on the TRD Sport with more upscale equipment, making it the better pick if you want added comfort and a more premium feel.
• TRD Off-road: This trim switches to 16-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres and adds a trail-oriented suspension with Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, and multi-terrain select. It is the right choice if you care most about rough-road and trail use.
• TRD Pro: This is the most rugged version, with unique exterior styling and badging, underbody skid plates, upgraded LED fog lights, and a TRD-tuned suspension. It is the one to choose if off-road capability is your priority.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 338 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,509 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $43,509 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,224 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more strategically now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The Tacoma still benefits from strong owner satisfaction and a reputation for durability, which should help support demand over time. Even so, resale strength will depend on trim, condition, and how well the truck has been maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The Toyota Tacoma earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional. The backup camera is standard, but the image is very grainy, so you will want to be extra careful when reversing.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It blends strong off-road ability with easy-to-use tech and everyday utility.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $43,197 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $43,509 CAD average.
• It adds two special editions and standard dual-zone climate control.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $48,032 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $43,509 CAD average.
• It leans harder into rugged appeal and hard-earned reliability.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want the current-year balance of price, satisfaction, and capability. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is the smarter value play, while the 2023 makes sense only if you want to pay more for a newer model-year step up.
