Used 2022 Toyota Tacoma for Sale nearEdmonton, AB

How much does the 2022 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 4.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 328 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Toyota Tacoma earns 4.36/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers most often praise its reliability, fuel economy, and off-road capabilities. They also like its good resale value and the truck’s performance in rough terrain. In practical terms, that lines up well with the Tacoma’s role as a smaller pickup for commuting, camping, kayaking, mountain biking, and weekend hauling.

The trade-offs are familiar: the base engine is underwhelming, the back seat is cramped, and some drivers feel the technology lags rivals. Even so, the Tacoma’s mix of toughness and everyday usefulness keeps it appealing if you value capability over polish.

Only 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, durability, and trouble-free ownership, with many drivers saying they feel confident counting on it over the long term. The expert assessment also describes it as a supremely trusty and durable vehicle built for whatever activity you throw at it.

Toyota’s maintenance advantage is not stated here, but the Tacoma’s reputation for dependable ownership is reinforced by its strong owner satisfaction and long-term appeal. For used buyers, the main risk is that age-related wear may show up in comfort, technology, and ride quality before it shows up in outright mechanical failure.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma lineup starts with standard features such as 16-inch steel wheels, a manually sliding rear window, air conditioning, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a trio of USB ports, a 4.2-inch colour display, and a 7-inch touchscreen. SR5 adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, heated front seats, and an 8-inch touchscreen. TRD Sport adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a TRD-tuned sport suspension, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, and a power-sliding rear window. TRD Off-Road adds all-terrain tyres, a trail-oriented suspension with Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, and Multi-Terrain Select. TRD Off-Road Premium adds leather seating, blind spot monitoring, and a power sliding and tilting moonroof. TRD Pro adds unique styling, skid plates, upgraded LED fog lights, and a TRD-tuned suspension.

• Powertrain: In Canada, the Tacoma uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque, and 4WD is standard. Both six-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmissions are offered. The V6 is capable, but it can still feel strained getting up to highway speeds, and the gearing can hunt for the right ratio. If you want the most trail-focused setup, the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro add features that help you manage rough terrain.

• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional, and the backup camera image is very grainy.

• Infotainment: The base truck gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth. All packages add an 8-inch touchscreen and SiriusXM satellite radio. The system is simple and easy to use, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported. Wireless device charging is available on some trims.

• Fuel efficiency: The V6 with 4WD and a manual transmission returns 13.8 L/100 km in city driving, 11.4 on the highway, and 12.7 combined. With the automatic, it uses 13.0 L/100 km city, 10.5 highway, and 11.8 combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: standard/Trail, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-road, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• standard/Trail: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tacoma formula with standard Toyota Safety Sense, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the basic work-ready hardware. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and do not need extra comfort or convenience features.

• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, heated front seats, and the larger 8-inch touchscreen without jumping too far up the price ladder. If you want a more comfortable daily driver, this is the trim to start with.

• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more street-focused feel, since it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a TRD-tuned sport suspension, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, and a power-sliding rear window. It suits you if you want more equipment and a slightly sharper on-road personality.

• TRD Sport Premium: This trim builds on the TRD Sport with more upscale equipment, but the core appeal remains the same: a better-equipped Tacoma with added convenience and comfort. It is the pick if you want the Sport’s features and are willing to pay for a more premium feel.

• TRD Off-road: This is the trim to target if trail use matters most, because it adds all-terrain tyres, Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, and Multi-Terrain Select. It is the right choice if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware without going all the way to the top.

• TRD Pro: This is the most rugged and most specialised version, with unique styling, skid plates, upgraded LED fog lights, and a TRD-tuned suspension. It is the one to buy if off-road capability is your priority and you want the most serious factory setup.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 328 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,616 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $43,794 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,857 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Tacoma is still in demand, but buyers have a bit more leverage than they did a year ago. For a future seller, that means condition, trim, and equipment will matter more if you want to stand out. Well-kept examples should still hold attention because the Tacoma’s reputation remains strong.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The Toyota Tacoma earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional, so you may want to prioritise a higher trim if those features matter to you.

The main caveat is the grainy backup camera image, which means you should be extra careful when reversing.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Tacoma’s strong off-road ability, easy-to-use tech, and standard Toyota Safety Sense.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $42,833 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $43,794 CAD average.
• It adds new special editions and standard dual-zone automatic climate control.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $47,974 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $43,794 CAD average.
• It leans harder into the Tacoma’s reputation for reliability and off-road brilliance.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2022 is the sensible default. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.
