Generally — 4.44/5 from owners and 8.33/10 from our experts points to a strong all-rounder. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its practicality, comfort, and performance, especially in different weather conditions. They also like the spacious interior and advanced technology features, including the sound system. On the other hand, some reviewers mention a basic-feeling cabin and limited leather-seat availability.

From an expert perspective, the RAV4’s roomy, flexible interior and stylish exterior make it easy to recommend for everyday use. The main trade-offs are that its stereo is lacking and it is described as poor value for money.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is the least equipped, while upper trims add more sophisticated tech and convenience features. If you want the most complete package, look higher in the range rather than assuming the entry trim gives you everything.
• Powertrain: You can choose from gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid setups. The gas model uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, while the hybrid and Prime focus more on efficiency and stronger combined output.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane-tracing assist, and road-sign assist. In Canada, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking are also standard.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth. A 9-inch touchscreen is optional on Trail and standard on Limited, along with an 11-speaker JBL audio system, navigation, Safety Connect, and Service Connect.
• Fuel efficiency: The gasoline model is rated at 7.9 L/100 km combined with FWD, and AWD versions range from 7.9 to 8.5 L/100 km combined. The hybrid is rated at 6.0 L/100 km combined, while the Prime is rated at 6.0 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode and 2.5 Le/100 km combined on electricity alone.

Which 2022 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, Trail, and TRD Off-Road.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the RAV4’s core practicality and standard safety without paying for extras you may not use. It is the value-focused starting point, but it is also the most basic.
• XLE: This is the trim that most buyers should start with if they want a better balance of equipment and price. It adds more everyday appeal than the LE and is the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• XLE Premium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It builds on the XLE with a more polished presentation.
• Trail: This trim leans into a more rugged look and is the one to consider if you want the more distinctive styling and available 9-inch touchscreen. It suits buyers who want a more adventurous appearance.
• Limited: This is the most comfort- and tech-oriented gas trim, with the 9-inch touchscreen standard and the most premium-feeling equipment. It is the right pick if you want the most complete non-hybrid RAV4.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the most specialised gas trim and is the one to choose if you want the most rugged character in the lineup. It is the most niche option and best for buyers who specifically want that tougher personality.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking are standard in Canada.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 817 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,192 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $32,204 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,176 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests future sellers may need to be realistic when they list. If the market continues to normalise, resale values may not rebound quickly unless demand stays strong.

The good news for owners is that the RAV4’s broad appeal, practicality, and reputation for dependability should continue to support demand. Well-kept examples should remain easy to move, especially if they are priced in line with the market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.44/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2022 if:

• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.44/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines mature styling, broad powertrain choice, and standard advanced safety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,245 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $32,204 CAD average.
• It offers more configuration variety, including the Trail and TRD Off-Road package.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $34,994 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $32,204 CAD average.
• It updates the infotainment system for a more current cabin feel.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-round pick if you want a well-rounded RAV4 with strong safety, broad appeal, and a softer price than last year. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value path; if you want a fresher-feeling cabin, the 2023 is worth the extra spend.
