How much does the 2022 Toyota Corolla cost?

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — with a 4.17/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, the 2022 Toyota Corolla lands as a strong all-round compact car. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and many also appreciate the features it offers. The trade-offs are familiar: outdated technology, potentially polarizing design, and sluggish performance. That said, the Corolla’s broad mix of body styles, transmissions, and powertrain choices makes it easy to match to your needs if you want a straightforward commuter with lots of configuration flexibility.

Only 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than deeply discounted.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable design that feels practical and worth the investment, with a general sense that it is a car you can count on. The expert assessment also frames it as a reliable and sensible compact car with a reputation for low-stress ownership. Toyota’s warranty coverage adds some reassurance, and the Corolla’s broad appeal suggests it should remain easy to live with over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s modest performance and dated tech will still suit you after the novelty wears off.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Corolla’s trim spread matters because the base L is much simpler than the higher grades. The L uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch unit, and some versions add SofTex leatherette, blacked-out styling, or the Apex Edition’s sportier body kit and 18-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.8-litre four-cylinder in L, LE, and XLE models, or a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in SE and XSE models. The base L can be had with a six-speed manual, while other versions use a CVT or, on some 2.0-litre trims, a six-speed manual with rev matching.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard from the Corolla LE.
• Infotainment: Look for the 8-inch touchscreen on most trims, since the base L gets a smaller 7-inch display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but wireless versions are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-litre engine with CVT is rated at 7.9 L/100 km city, 5.9 highway, and 6.8 combined. The manual-transmission SE Apex Edition is rated at 8.2 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 7.4 combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE, Apex Edition, and Nightshade Edition.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Corolla, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost route to the model’s core strengths. You give up the larger touchscreen and some convenience features, but you still get the Corolla’s basic practicality and standard safety equipment.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier sportier grades. It also benefits from the broader safety package, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented Corolla with more upscale equipment than the lower trims. It suits you best if you care more about a calmer daily drive than sporty character.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the Corolla to feel a bit more engaging. It brings the 2.0-litre engine and a more aggressive look, making it a better fit if you want a little more personality.
• XSE: Pick this if you want the most fully equipped mainstream Corolla sedan. It adds more premium equipment, including the available JBL audio system, and is the right choice if you want the most features without moving into a special edition.
• Apex Edition: This is the enthusiast-flavoured Corolla, with a sport exhaust, lowered suspension, and sharper handling. It is the one to consider if you want the most distinctive driving character, but it is not a full performance model.
• Nightshade Edition: Choose this if styling matters most and you want the SE-based blacked-out look. It is mainly about appearance rather than a major mechanical upgrade.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard from the Corolla LE.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers: there is enough inventory to shop around, but the best-priced examples still deserve quick attention.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 501 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,264 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $22,266 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,793 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can help you enter at a lower cost. For a future seller, that also means resale expectations should stay grounded unless the market tightens again. The Corolla’s broad appeal and steady demand should help support values, but it is still a volume compact car, so pricing discipline matters.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns a Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard from the Corolla LE. The main caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim, with some versions rated lower than others by IIHS.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds two new colours and keeps the Corolla’s broad mix of body styles, transmissions, and powertrain choices.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,041 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,266 CAD average.
• It blends affordability, reliability, and efficiency with a more engaging personality.

The bottom line: If you want the broader 2022 market and the latest colour updates, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you still want the Corolla’s dependable, efficient formula, the 2021 is the smarter value play.
