How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

There are 149 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, ruggedness, and spacious interior. That lines up with the 4Runner’s purpose-built, adventure-first character, while still leaving room for everyday use. It is especially appealing if you want a traditional SUV feel rather than a softer crossover approach.

There are 32.2% good or great deals in the market, which suggests there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, alongside the 4Runner’s ruggedness and durability-minded appeal. The powertrain is described as reliable, even if it is not especially quick or refined in everyday driving.

Toyota also backs the 4Runner with a five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about accepting its older-school design and ownership trade-offs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trail grade includes push-button start, remote keyless entry, a power-sliding rear window, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while the Limited adds three-row seating, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, LED fog lights, and a 15-speaker JBL audio system. The Trail is the most stripped-back choice, so you should check whether its feature set is enough for your needs.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-litre V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic and standard 4WD with low range. It is reliable and adequate off the line, but it feels dated and underwhelming in many everyday situations.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Some of these features depend on the automatic transmission, which is standard here.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. There is no larger screen upgrade, but navigation and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system can be added.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates consumption at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.8 L/100 km combined, or 14.9 L/100 km city and 12.6 L/100 km highway with the Limited’s full-time 4WD system.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: Trail, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off Road, Limited, TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• Trail: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner experience with standard 4WD, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Toyota Safety Sense P. It is the value play if you want the rugged basics and can live without heated front seats.
• SR5: This trim sits above the Trail and is the starting point for the package-based lineup. It makes sense if you want a broader path to equipment upgrades without jumping straight to the more specialised trims.
• TRD Sport: This version adds a more road-oriented setup with 20-inch alloy wheels, X-REAS performance suspension, a TRD hood scoop, and sport exterior badging. It suits you if you want a more pavement-focused look and feel.
• TRD Off Road: This is the best fit if you want the 4Runner’s off-road hardware, with a locking rear differential, crawl control, active traction control, multi-terrain select, black roof rails, KDSS, and unique 17-inch wheels. It is the trim to target if trail use matters most.
• Limited: This is the most comfort-leaning choice, with three-row seating, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, parking sensors, and the JBL audio system. It is the best-value trim if you want the most everyday convenience.
• TRD Pro: This is the most ruggedly equipped version, with Fox shock absorbers, an aluminium front skid plate, a basket-style roof rack, and TRD Pro badging. Choose it if you want the most off-road-focused factory setup.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and the Trail grade is the most feature-light trim, so compare equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 149 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.24% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,183 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $49,183 CAD sits slightly below last year's $56,041 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The 4Runner’s rugged reputation and loyal following should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a traditional SUV with real capability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings in rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Some of those features are tied to the automatic transmission, which is standard here.

The main caveat is that the 2022 4Runner has not yet been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, so you do not get a full IIHS result to compare against newer rivals.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the rugged, adventure-first 4Runner character while adding modern infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $47,187 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $49,183 CAD average.
• It offers the same rugged, utility-first appeal with strong reliability and resale value.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $54,841 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $49,183 CAD average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a limited-production special edition.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and current-market availability, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, the 2021 can deliver the same core 4Runner personality for less. If you want the newest updates and can spend more, the 2023 is the better alternative.
