How much does the 2022 Subaru WRX cost?

Prices have softened 10.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 134 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru WRX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru WRX earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its thrilling performance, sporty character, and all-wheel-drive versatility. The overview also points to a strong mix of driving enjoyment and everyday commuting usefulness, which makes it appealing if you want an enthusiast-focused sedan that still works as a daily driver. With 35.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also a decent amount of market value to consider.

Is the 2022 Subaru WRX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a car that feels dependable in daily use, with many drivers describing it as a vehicle they can count on for both spirited driving and commuting. The expert summary also reinforces that the WRX’s appeal is built around a durable performance-and-practicality formula rather than a one-note personality.

Subaru’s maintenance and ownership approach can help keep running costs predictable, but you should still watch for signs of hard use, especially on enthusiast-owned examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru WRX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim is the most stripped-back version, while Sport and Sport-tech add more convenience and safety equipment. The base model misses blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert, so you should decide whether those features matter to you.
• Powertrain: The WRX uses a 2.4-litre turbocharged Boxer four-cylinder with standard all-wheel drive. You can choose a six-speed manual or a CVT, and the manual is described as especially satisfying to drive.
• Safety package: EyeSight comes standard on CVT-equipped models and includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, an electronic brake booster, and automatic steering assist. Manual models do not get EyeSight, though Sport and Sport-tech trims still add blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Sport-trim and higher models get an 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen. The base trim uses two stacked 7-inch displays instead, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration are not especially polished.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the manual at 12.3 L/100 km in city driving, 9.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.8 L/100 km combined. The CVT is rated at 12.7 L/100 km city, 9.4 L/100 km highway, and 11.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Subaru WRX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru WRX is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Sport, and Sport-tech.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the WRX’s core performance and all-wheel-drive character at the lowest price, but you give up the extra safety features found higher up the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen and the key safety equipment that the base trim lacks.
• Sport-tech: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped WRX, with the highest level of convenience and safety content in the lineup.

The Sport trim is the sweet spot for most buyers because it adds the most meaningful equipment without pushing the price as high as the top trim. If safety features matter to you, note that EyeSight is standard only on CVT-equipped models, while manual versions do not get it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru WRX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but not so much that bargains are guaranteed.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 134 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,248 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $28,254 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,444 CAD.

That decline suggests the WRX has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier to attract interest if you decide to sell later. A softer market can also mean you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if similar examples are listed nearby. Even so, the WRX’s enthusiast appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru WRX safe?

The 2022 Subaru WRX earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

CVT-equipped models come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, an electronic brake booster, and automatic steering assist. Manual models do not get EyeSight, and the base trim also misses blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Subaru Global Platform is designed to absorb more crash energy than the previous architecture, and the car comes standard with seven airbags, including a driver’s-side knee airbag.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a revised 2.4-litre engine, improved suspension tuning, and upgraded technology.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,954 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,254 CAD average.
• It carries over the same fourth-generation formula with no changes.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it delivers the core WRX experience at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year with the same basic formula, the 2023 is the simpler alternative.

How does the 2022 Subaru WRX compare to the 2022 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2022 Subaru WRX 6.8/10 and the 2022 Honda Civic 7.7/10. The WRX is the more specialised choice if you want standard all-wheel drive and a performance-first personality. The Civic is the stronger value play overall, with a lower average used price and far more listings to choose from. If you want a more engaging enthusiast sedan, the WRX has the edge; if you want broader shopping flexibility, the Civic is easier to find.
