What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 RAM 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. The cabin and equipment vary widely, and lower trims miss some of the richer features found higher up the range.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, an available 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, or the turbocharged 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6. The EcoDiesel delivers strong torque and can be very efficient, but it is expensive.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting from the Big Horn trims. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rain-sensing wipers, a parking-assistance system, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can have a 12-inch display. Uconnect 5 is optional on lower trims and standard from the Sport grade, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test truck averaged 9.5 L/100 km on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the RAM 1500’s core capability and design without paying for the richer equipment found higher up. It is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more comfort and convenience features.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability while unlocking important available safety content such as blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Sport: This is the trim where Uconnect 5 becomes standard, and it also marks the point where 4WD is standard in Canada. It suits you if you want a stronger mix of tech and capability.
• Rebel: This is the better pick if you want a more rugged personality and a truck that leans toward off-road style and use.
• Laramie: This is the right step up if you want a more upscale cabin and more comfort-focused equipment without going all the way to the luxury end.
• Limited Longhorn: This trim is for you if you want a more premium, distinctive interior and a richer overall feel.
• Limited: This is the luxury-leaning choice, especially if you want the most polished cabin, the available 12-inch display, and the highest-end comfort and tech features.
• TRX: This is the performance flagship, with the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 and the most extreme character in the lineup.

The safety package starts with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on Big Horn and expands with more advanced driver aids on higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,540 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.12% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,694 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,694 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,777 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests buyers have a bit more leverage today than they did a year ago. For a future seller, it means resale value may be more sensitive to trim, condition, and equipment than to broad market momentum alone.

The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell. Well-kept examples with desirable features should remain easier to move than less-equipped trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS when equipped with all of its driver aids, and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. It also earns four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features on the starting from the Ram 1500 Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trim levels are available with automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.

The Advanced Safety Group adds those features, plus the head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system. That said, some of the more advanced safety content is reserved for higher trims, so you should check carefully if safety tech is a priority.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines comfort, utility, technology, and driving character in a way that stands out in the segment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $33,121 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,694 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX, a high-performance off-road flagship.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,579 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,694 CAD average.
• It leans more upscale, with premium materials and strong ride quality.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest all-around balance of comfort, capability, and tech, the 2022 is the best primary path. If price matters most, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you want a slightly newer truck and are willing to pay more.
