What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 RAM 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. The base-grade interior is described as having a plastic foundation, while higher trims add much richer materials and more luxury-focused equipment.
• Powertrain: You can get a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, or the turbocharged 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6. The EcoDiesel is the efficiency-focused choice, but it is also the priciest engine option.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting from the Big Horn trims. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability through the Advanced Safety Group.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can have a 12-inch display. Uconnect 5 is optional on lower grades and standard from the Sport grade, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel test truck was rated at 9.7 L/100 km combined, and the test loop returned 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the Ram 1500’s core capability and a lower starting point, but it is also the trim where you are most likely to feel the feature gaps that show up in the cabin and safety equipment.
• Big Horn: This is the first trim where key driver-assistance features begin to appear, including blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert, so it is a sensible value step up if you want more everyday usability.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because Uconnect 5 becomes standard here, and it also marks the point where 4WD becomes standard in Canada.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want a more rugged personality and a trim that sits above the mainstream comfort-focused grades.
• Laramie: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin and a stronger luxury lean without going all the way to the top-end trims.
• Limited Longhorn: This suits you if you want premium materials and a more distinctive upscale presentation.
• Limited: This is the luxury choice, with the richest interior presentation and the most polished overall feel in the lineup.
• TRX: This is the high-performance flagship, aimed at buyers who want the most extreme version of the Ram 1500.

The Advanced Safety Group adds features such as forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rain-sensing wipers, a parking-assistance system, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,645 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,094 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,094 CAD sits slightly below last year's $43,819 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if market conditions stay similar. The current trend suggests the truck is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell. In this case, the Ram’s comfort, ride quality, and premium feel should continue to appeal to used-truck shoppers looking for a more refined full-size pickup.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS when equipped with all of its driver aids, and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also has dual four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features on the starting from the Ram 1500 Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring, including trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trim levels are available with automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. The Advanced Safety Group adds those features, plus the head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system.

One thing to keep in mind is that some owners note missing standard safety features, so you may want to pay close attention to the exact trim and option package on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Uconnect 5 and a broader mix of comfort, tech, and refinement than many buyers expect from a full-size truck.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,476 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,094 CAD average.
• It brings a more performance-focused identity with the TRX as its headline move.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,055 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,094 CAD average.
• It leans further into upscale comfort and a car-like feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of comfort, tech, and current-market pricing, the 2022 is the primary path to consider. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look, especially if you want to spend less up front.
