The driving impression also supports that view, with a composed ride and a cabin that stays quiet and well put together. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-mileage examples may show the usual wear that comes with a popular mainstream sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SR Midnight Edition, and Platinum trims differ most in appearance and comfort. Lower trims don’t look and feel as nice, while the SR Midnight Edition adds blacked-out styling, LED fog lights, 19-inch wheels, a moonroof, heated front seats, and a two-way power-lumbar driver’s seat.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. All-wheel drive is standard, and the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine is not sold in Canada.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and forward-collision warning. Every Altima also has automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, rear door alert, and hill-start assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch advanced drive-assist display and an 8-inch colour touchscreen with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, hands-free text messaging, SiriusXM, and two USB ports. Navigation, connected services, and remote engine start with intelligent climate control start at SR, while Platinum adds a nine-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada lists combined fuel consumption at 7.9 L/100 km, with 9.1 L/100 km in city driving and 6.5 L/100 km on the highway. SR and Platinum trims add 0.2 L/100 km to each figure.

Which 2022 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Altima is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SR Midnight Edition, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Altima formula: standard all-wheel drive, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the full safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and can live without the extra comfort and style upgrades.
• SR Midnight Edition: This is the best-value choice if you want the Altima to feel more distinctive. It adds the blacked-out appearance package, LED fog lights, 19-inch wheels, a moonroof, heated front seats, and a power-lumbar driver’s seat, while also bringing navigation and connected services.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most upscale Altima experience. It adds the premium audio system and the richest feature set in the lineup, making it the trim to target if comfort and equipment matter more than price.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the lower trims miss some of the nicer convenience and luxury touches.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 54 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.24% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,550 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $23,175 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,716 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Altima is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you plan to sell later, you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.

The market also shows that this model year is still moving, but not at a premium. For a future seller, that means a clean, well-equipped example should hold up better than a bare-bones or heavily used one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2022 Nissan Altima earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA in overall crash protection, front crash protection, side crash protection, and rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. Nissan also offers ProPilot Assist, which can help with acceleration, steering, and braking under certain conditions.

One caveat is that IIHS rates the headlights only Acceptable, so the Altima’s safety story is strongest overall rather than perfect in every detail.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard all-wheel drive with strong safety ratings and a well-equipped cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,062 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,175 CAD average.
• It offers an earlier version of the same generation with a popular midsize-sedan formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,857 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $23,175 CAD average.
• It keeps the Altima’s practical value focus while adding broad appeal for traditional sedan shoppers.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and equipment, the 2022 is the best all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly route, while the 2023 is worth a look if you want a nearby-year alternative at a similar price.
