Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable, luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. The Bose stereo system also comes up as a favourite feature, and the car’s overall feel is described as refined and desirable.

The main trade-offs are its poor fuel economy and cramped back seat, while the technology can be unintuitive. That said, the MAZDA3’s stylish design and enjoyable driving manners make it a strong fit if you want a compact car that feels more premium than many mainstream rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans sedan and hatchback body styles, with the base versions offering the core Mazda3 experience and higher grades adding more equipment and a more upscale feel. In Canada, some safety features are not standard on every trim, so you should check carefully before assuming a car has the full driver-assistance suite.
• Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a non-turbo 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder. The turbo version is paired with standard AWD and delivers the strongest performance, while the base engine is the most fuel-efficient.
• Safety package: Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights cost extra. GT grades add adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and Mazda Connected Services adds remote functions and collision notification for two years.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-litre engine uses 7.6 L/100 km combined, or 7.7 L/100 km with the manual. The non-turbo 2.5-litre ranges from 7.8 to 8.6 L/100 km combined, while the turbo uses 8.8 L/100 km in sedan form and 8.9 L/100 km in hatchback form.

Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX, GS, GT.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the most affordable way into the MAZDA3, and it gives you the base 2.0-litre engine with the best fuel economy in the lineup. It makes sense if you want the styling, safety reputation, and driving feel without paying for extra power or luxury touches.
• GS: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it moves you into the more desirable 2.5-litre engine and broader equipment mix without jumping to the top end of the range. If you want the sweet spot between price, performance, and everyday comfort, this is the one to focus on.
• GT: This is the trim to target if you want the most complete feature set, including the advanced safety and convenience upgrades mentioned in the safety content. It suits you best if you want the most premium MAZDA3 experience and are willing to pay for it.

GT grades get adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.

What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for sellers to command top dollar right now. If you own one, you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially against the available inventory.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,308 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,660 CAD average.
• It introduced the turbocharged engine and a more performance-focused character.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,138 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,660 CAD average.
• It adds a more upscale feel with hatchback versatility and improved everyday usefulness.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right default if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and style at today’s pricing.
