What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GX, GS, Kuro, and GT are the value-focused trims, while the Sport Design and Signature sit higher up the range. The base trims give you the core CX-5 experience, but the upper trims add more premium touches and extra equipment.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the turbo version delivers up to 256 hp and 320 pound-feet on premium fuel. All CX-5s have standard all-wheel drive, and the revised six-speed automatic is part of the 2022 update.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. GT adds adaptive headlights, while Signature gets a surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, and Mazda Connected Services. The screen is not touch-sensing, so you’ll be using the centre-console and steering-wheel controls.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 9.3 L/100 km combined, or 9.0 L/100 km when cylinder deactivation is equipped. The turbo is rated at 9.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 6 trim levels: GX, GS, Kuro, GT, Sport Design, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price, but you’ll miss out on some of the more premium touches found higher up the range.
• GS: This is the sensible step-up choice for most shoppers because it balances equipment and value well without pushing you too far up the price ladder.
• Kuro: This trim adds a more distinctive look and is also the first trim to get the Mi-Drive selector with Normal, Sport, and Off-Road settings.
• GT: This is a strong middle-to-upper choice if you want more comfort and convenience, plus adaptive headlights from the safety package.
• Sport Design: This is the best-value pick if you want the turbo engine available and a more upscale feel without going all the way to Signature.
• Signature: This is the luxury-leaning choice with the most premium cabin materials and the fullest safety and convenience equipment.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the GT and Signature trims add extra features that may matter if you drive at night or want more advanced parking and low-speed assistance.

• Inventory: There are 680 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $27,830 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,721 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The current range suggests the CX-5 is still holding meaningful demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. If you buy at the right price and maintain the vehicle carefully, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 update brings a quieter ride, sharper handling, and a more premium feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,339 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,830 CAD average.
• It keeps the CX-5’s polished, upscale feel while adding enhanced technology.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,155 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,830 CAD average.
• It stays stylish and well-rounded, but adds no major changes beyond a premium paint option.

The bottom line: If you want the best blend of value, refinement, and safety, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while preserving much of the same appeal. If you want a newer example and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 remains a familiar, polished choice.
