How much does the 2022 MINI Cooper cost?

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 5.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

The 2022 MINI Cooper Convertible is aimed at a very specific buyer, and that focus is part of its appeal. It sits in premium small car territory thanks to BMW-based engineering, BMW engines, and BMW technology, yet it stands apart because of the sheer range of choices and personalisation options MINI offers.

For shoppers who want a small car that feels more distinctive than mainstream alternatives, that combination is a major draw. 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 MINI Cooper is built around BMW-based engineering and technology, and the expert assessment describes it as a premium small car with a strong personality. The performance notes also point to a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine in Cooper form, plus a more powerful Cooper S and JCW setup for buyers who want more urgency.

The value case is less about low running costs and more about the ownership experience, since MINI positions this car as something you buy for character, equipment, and personalisation. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying premium-car money for a niche convertible, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The refreshed styling adds restyled bumpers, a new grille, standard LED headlights, and a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen display. The cabin also gets a new steering wheel and digital instrumentation, while the car’s personality-heavy design can feel cluttered depending on how it’s equipped.
• Powertrain: The Cooper uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, while the Cooper S and JCW versions add more power and torque. Both engines can be paired with a manual or dual-clutch automatic, and the car is front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available with the automatic transmission, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not available.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and BMW-based connected services. Android Auto is not available, while navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a Harman Kardon sound system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Cooper S test car averaged 8.7 L/100 km in testing, and MINI says it should return 8.1 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2022 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2022 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the entry point if you want the MINI look, the standard 1.5-litre engine, and the refreshed cabin and tech without paying for extra performance. It suits you best if style and personalisation matter more than speed.
• Cooper S: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest balance of performance and everyday usability. It adds the 2.0-litre engine and is the version most clearly described as lively and enjoyable to drive.
• John Cooper Works: Choose this if you want the most powerful and most enthusiast-focused version. It is the right pick if you care most about maximum performance and are willing to pay for it.

Driving Assistant is standard, and adaptive cruise control is available with the automatic transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 96 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,586 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $24,549 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,136 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favour, which can make the car easier to sell if you price it competitively later. The current range also shows there is still a meaningful spread between low and high examples, so condition and equipment will matter when you go to resell.

Because this model year appeals to a specific buyer, well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold attention better than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper safe?

The MINI Convertible does not have published crash-test ratings from either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

It does get newly standard Driving Assistant technology for 2022, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available with the automatic transmission and can bring the car to a full stop.

A blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert is not available, which is worth noting if you often drive with the top raised. The lane-departure warning system is effective, but the car’s visibility challenges remain part of the ownership experience.

Should I buy a 2022 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed model adds more technology and a broader personalisation focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,689 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,549 CAD average.
• It adds a limited-run Resolute Edition and new paint colours.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the better value and a wider pool of used listings. Consider the 2023 only if the newer special-edition styling matters enough to justify the higher price.

How does the 2022 MINI Cooper compare to the 2022 BMW 2 Series?

Our experts score the 2022 MINI Cooper 5.2/10 and the 2022 BMW 2 Series 6.8/10. The BMW has the stronger expert score, more power, and a higher average used price. The MINI counters with a lower entry price and more listings, which may make it easier for you to shop within budget. If you want the more affordable and more distinctive choice, the MINI makes sense; if you want the stronger overall package, the BMW is the better pick.
