What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus IS?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The IS 500 F Sport Performance adds a more dramatic performance character, with a raised hood, quad exhaust outlets, exclusive 19-inch lighter-weight alloy wheels, and a more stealthy look than lesser IS models. It also includes triple-beam headlights, a navigation system, a surround-view monitoring system, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system. If you want the most distinctive and best-equipped version, this is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: The IS 500 F Sport Performance uses a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 with rear-wheel drive, an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission, and a limited-slip differential. It also offers Eco, Normal, Sport S, Sport+, and Custom drive modes, plus adaptive variable suspension and a Yamaha rear performance damper.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard on all 2022 IS models. It includes driving assistance, collision warning and emergency braking, lane keep assist, collision-prevention technologies, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance, and lane-departure warning. Some functions can react too aggressively in tighter curves or heavy city traffic.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Lexus IS?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 61 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.47% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $38,896 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $39,899 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,660 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale more competitive if you purchase at the right price. If values stabilise, a well-kept example bought near the lower end of the range should have a better chance of holding its appeal. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Lexus IS safe?

The Lexus IS earns the highest overall rating of “Top Safety Pick+” from IIHS, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it an overall rating of five stars. It also earns a high five-star rating for rollover resistance, but receives a four-star frontal-impact collision rating for the driver and front passenger.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard on all 2022 IS models. It brings driving assistance, collision warning and emergency braking, lane keep assist, collision-prevention technologies, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assistance, and lane-departure warning. The system is generally agreeable, but some functions can be intrusive or overly sensitive in tighter curves and heavy city traffic.

Should I buy a 2022 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a notable performance boost, including the debut of the IS 500 F Sport Performance.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $38,112 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,899 CAD average.
• It launched the new generation with a sharper, more driver-oriented character.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the stronger performance story and a market that has softened from last year. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 remains the value-oriented alternative.
