How much does the 2022 Hyundai Sonata cost?

There are 140 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

The Sonata’s appeal is its bold styling, strong sense of quality, and clear value proposition in the midsize-sedan class. It also gives you a surprisingly sporty N Line variant, so you are not limited to a purely practical commuter.

With 25.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Sonata is presented as a well-finished, value-focused midsize sedan, and its expert assessment highlights exceptional quality alongside broad everyday usability. Its powertrain is described as competent and calm, with a serene cabin and a smooth, composed driving experience.

Hyundai also backs the model with a five-year or 100,000 kilometre powertrain warranty, which helps reduce some of the risk that comes with used-car ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the car has been maintained properly, especially if you are considering a higher-spec or more heavily equipped trim.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Sonata?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Preferred trim gives you the essentials, but the Sport, Luxury, and N Line add meaningful upgrades such as a panoramic sunroof, leather seating, ventilated front seats, a Bose audio system, and sportier exterior and interior details. The N Line is the most distinctive choice if you want the most aggressive styling and the richest equipment list.
• Powertrain: The Sonata uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder on lower trims and a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder on Sport and Luxury, both paired with an eight-speed automatic. The N Line steps up to a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with a wet dual-clutch automatic, sport suspension, and tuned exhaust.
• Safety package: All trims include forward collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear occupant alert, and Safe Exit Warning. Highway Driving Assist lane-centring assistance and a blind-spot view monitor are standard on N Line and Ultimate Hybrid, so lower trims miss those features.
• Infotainment: Base SE versions get an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a rear-view camera. Higher trims move to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, and the N Line and Ultimate Hybrid add wireless charging; the Bose audio system is also available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: NRCan combined fuel consumption ranges from 7.7 L/100 km on lower trims to 8.8 L/100 km on the N Line. During testing, the Sonata averaged 7.7 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata is offered in 4 trim levels: Preferred, Sport, Luxury, and N Line.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and the core Sonata experience. You still get LED lighting, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and the full standard safety suite.
• Sport: This trim is the best-value upgrade if you want more style and convenience without jumping to the top end. It adds a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, a power driver’s seat, and larger alloy wheels.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want the most comfort-focused version before the N Line. It adds leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a Bose premium audio system, and a more upscale instrument display.
• N Line: This is the one to buy if you want the sportiest Sonata. It adds the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine, sport suspension, wet dual-clutch transmission, unique styling, a larger touchscreen with navigation, Highway Drive Assist, and a 12.3-inch gauge display.

The safety package is strong across the range, but Highway Drive Assist lane-centring assistance and the blind-spot view monitor are reserved for N Line and Ultimate Hybrid.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Sonata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 25.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 140 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,436 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $21,448 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,353 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Sonata is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you are planning to sell later, the recent decline means you may need to price competitively to stand out.

The good news is that the model’s strong value story and broad equipment list should help it remain appealing to used shoppers. A well-kept Sonata with desirable equipment should still attract attention, especially if it is priced in line with the market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata gets five stars for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four stars for front crash protection and five stars for side crash protection and rollover resistance. The Sonata also earns top "Good" ratings in all six IIHS crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, rearview monitor, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning. Highway Driving Assist lane-centring assistance and a blind-spot view monitor are standard on N Line and Ultimate Hybrid.

One caveat is that IIHS crash-avoidance testing rated the LED projector headlights on the N Line and Ultimate Hybrid as Good, while the LED reflector headlights on other trims received a Marginal rating.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong value, quality, and a sporty N Line option in a practical midsize-sedan package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,833 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,448 CAD average.
• It is a compelling choice for drivers who want a fun-to-drive sedan with passenger and cargo practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around value story and a broader used-market selection, the 2022 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains a smart alternative, especially if you are focused on performance-oriented practicality.
