Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the unique design, versatile features, comfortable interior, smooth driving experience, and impressive fuel economy. That lines up well with Hyundai’s positioning of the Santa Cruz as a sport adventure vehicle for you if you want something more rugged than a sedan or crossover SUV, but easier to live with than a conventional truck.

Good and great deals account for 26.5% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with praise for its comfortable interior, smooth driving experience, and versatile features. The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the Santa Cruz as a vehicle that delivers a crossover-like driving experience and interior while still offering pickup utility.

Hyundai’s 5-year, 100,000-kilometre new-vehicle limited warranty adds some ownership reassurance for used buyers, especially if you are trying to limit long-term risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred grade is the starting point, while the Preferred with the Trend Package adds more equipment, and the Ultimate brings the larger touchscreen, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, a surround-view camera system, and Highway Driving Assist. The base setup uses halogen headlights, which keep it from the top IIHS result.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian Santa Cruz uses a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. It is tuned for strong on-road performance rather than serious off-road use.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-follow assist, rear-seat reminder, driver attention warning, blind-spot monitoring and collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist. Highway Driving Assist and the surround-view camera system are available on the Ultimate grade.
• Infotainment: The standard 8-inch touchscreen includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 10.6 L/100 km combined, with 12.1 L/100 km in the city and 8.6 L/100 km on the highway.

Which 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Preferred with the Trend Package, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Santa Cruz experience with standard all-wheel drive, the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine, the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the model.
• Preferred with the Trend Package: This is the best-value choice if you want a more polished daily driver without jumping all the way to the top trim. It adds more equipment than the base version while keeping the Santa Cruz’s core strengths intact.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the most complete Santa Cruz, including the larger touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, 20-inch wheels, surround-view camera system, and Highway Driving Assist.

The safety package is standard across the range, but the halogen headlights on the Preferred grades keep them from the IIHS top designation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 113 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.20% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,354 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $29,354 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,617 CAD.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Santa Cruz more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and how well the truck has been maintained.

Because the Santa Cruz has a distinctive design and strong owner satisfaction, it should continue to draw interest from shoppers who want something different from a conventional pickup. That helps support demand, even if its resale trajectory is softer than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The Santa Cruz is a Top Safety Pick as designated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), falling short of the organization’s top rating due to the halogen headlights that are standard on the Preferred grades.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-follow assist, rear-seat reminder, driver attention warning, blind-spot monitoring and collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist. A surround-view camera system and Highway Driving Assist are available on the Ultimate grade.

The main caveat is that the base-grade headlights keep it from the IIHS’s highest result, so if safety is a priority, you may want to focus on trims with the better lighting and the available driver-assistance upgrades.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as Hyundai’s first pickup and a compact, unibody alternative to a conventional truck.

The bottom line: The 2022 Santa Cruz makes sense if you want the model’s distinctive design, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that has already softened enough to create some buying opportunities. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping for a listing near the low end of the range and focus on the trim that gives you the equipment you will actually use.
