Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It stands out because it wraps useful truck-like versatility in a compact, quirky package, with plenty of utility for its size and a stylish design that helps it feel distinctive rather than purely practical. It also brings a peppy powertrain and Hyundai’s strong warranty, which adds peace of mind if you want a small truck with everyday usefulness.

The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy and a cramped back seat, so it suits you best if you value character, city-friendly size, and utility more than maximum efficiency or rear-seat space.

32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Hyundai’s strong warranty is a meaningful ownership advantage, and the Santa Cruz is described as a favourite since its debut because it delivers useful versatility in a compact package. The expert assessment also points to a well-rounded formula that has stayed largely consistent, which can be reassuring if you want a proven setup rather than a risky redesign.

The powertrain is described as peppy, and the trucklet’s overall formula suggests solid day-to-day dependability for buyers who use it as a light-duty utility vehicle. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its efficiency and rear-seat limitations may matter more as your needs grow.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred trim is the starting point, while the Ultimate adds more equipment and a more complete feature set. The base setup leaves some desirable items for higher trims or packages, including additional driver-assistance technologies and features that improve convenience and comfort.
• Powertrain: Canadian units are sold exclusively with all-wheel drive, and the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder is the stronger engine choice with 282 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and is described as surprisingly peppy for passing and commuting.
• Safety package: All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. Adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist- and junction-turning detection are optional on the Preferred trim’s Trend Package, while the Ultimate gets everything.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch display infotainment system, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available in Canada. There is also no physical volume knob, and wireless charging is offered only on the Ultimate trim.
• Fuel efficiency: Expect to burn 12.2 L/100 km in city driving, 8.7 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.6 L/100 km combined.

Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 2 trim levels: Preferred and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point and makes the Santa Cruz’s core appeal accessible: compact size, useful bed space, all-wheel drive, and the standard safety suite. It suits you if you want the Santa Cruz experience without paying for the top trim, but you may want the Trend Package if you value extra driver assistance and convenience features.
• Ultimate: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete Santa Cruz. It adds the full safety and convenience package, including Hyundai’s Highway Drive Assist, the blind-spot view monitor, and wireless charging, making it the better pick if you plan to keep the trucklet for daily use and want the most polished version.

The Ultimate trim gets everything in the safety package, while the Preferred can be upgraded with the Trend Package for some of the key extras.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 193 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.05% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,667 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $36,129 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,618 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Santa Cruz has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if the market stays active. At the same time, the current average still sits within a healthy year-round range, so you are not looking at a model that has fallen off a cliff in value.

If demand remains steady for compact, versatile trucks with strong utility, resale should stay reasonably supported. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a five-star rating in front crash and a four-star rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai offers a pretty comprehensive set of advanced driver-assistance systems. All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning and rear occupant alert. The Ultimate gets Hyundai’s Highway Drive Assist, which pairs adaptive cruise control and lane-centring, plus the blind-spot view monitor.

A key caveat is that the 2024 model has not yet been rated by IIHS. The safety story is still strong on equipment, but you should keep that lack of IIHS testing in mind if crash-test validation matters most to you.

Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the same useful, quirky formula with a peppy powertrain and strong warranty.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $38,252 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $36,129 CAD average.
• It adds new tech, styling updates, and off-roading enhancements.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the core package remains appealing. If you are willing to pay more for updates and newer tech, the 2025 is the better path; price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2024.
