The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a value-focused compact sedan that pairs stylish exterior design with a roomy cabin and a strong list of standard safety and driver-assistance features. How much does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,608 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $18,608 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $21,257 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,257 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.46% |
Prices have softened 12.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 638 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its excellent value, impressive warranty, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design. That lines up well with the Elantra’s use case as a value-focused compact sedan that gives you a roomy cabin and a strong equipment list without pushing you into a larger vehicle.
The trade-offs are a base engine that can feel underwhelming, plus some complaints about uncomfortable seats and cabin noise. Even so, the overall package remains compelling if you want a well-equipped daily driver with strong efficiency and a distinctive look.
Only 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is somewhat selective rather than flooded with bargains.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable ownership experience, with repeated praise for the car’s value, fuel efficiency, safety features, and overall satisfaction over time. The expert assessment also reinforces that impression by highlighting top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty.
That warranty coverage helps reduce early ownership risk, which is especially useful when you’re shopping used and want some protection against surprise repair costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Essential is the value play, but it leaves some safety and convenience features off the standard list that you’ll find on higher trims. The Preferred, Ultimate, and N Line add more equipment and a more upscale feel.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder is adequate, but it can feel short on power when you accelerate hard. The N Line’s turbocharged 1.6-litre engine is the enthusiast choice, while the Hybrid is the efficiency-focused option.
- Safety package: Hyundai’s driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assistance, automatic high beams, and driver attention alert. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Warning are standard on all but the Essential.
- Infotainment: The base system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, a rearview camera, four speakers, and dual USB ports. Higher trims add a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and Bose audio, but wired smartphone integration only.
- Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel consumption ranges from 6.7 L/100 km for the 2.0-litre engine to 7.6 L/100 km for the N Line, while the Hybrid uses 4.4 L/100 km combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Ultimate, and N Line.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the value-first choice if you want the lowest entry point and still want a strong safety and tech foundation. It makes the most sense if you’re focused on affordability and can live without some of the extra convenience and safety features found higher up the range.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims. It’s the sweet spot if you want a more complete package without paying for the most expensive equipment.
- Ultimate: Choose this if you want the most upscale mainstream Elantra experience, including the larger touchscreen, navigation, digital cluster, Bose audio, and wireless charging. It suits you best if tech and cabin polish matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
- N Line: Pick this if you want the sportiest gas-powered Elantra, with the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a more aggressive look and feel. It’s the right fit if you care more about driving character than maximum comfort.
Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Warning are standard on all trims except the Essential.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should still shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 638 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $18,608 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $18,608 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,257 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to move it quickly.
The good news is that the Elantra’s strong value reputation, efficiency, and feature content should help support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection and five-star ratings for side crash protection and rollover resistance. It also earns top Good ratings from IIHS in all six of its individual crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai’s standard safety setup includes automatic emergency braking across the board. On all trims except the Essential, you also get forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assistance, automatic high beams, driver attention alert, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. One caveat is that lower-level trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while LED-equipped trims were rated Good.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong safety, efficiency, and value in a redesigned compact sedan.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,549 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,608 CAD average.
- It offers a redesigned compact sedan with style, space, and refinement.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $20,908 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,608 CAD average.
- It broadens the lineup with more choices, including an efficient hybrid and stronger tech appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and proven appeal, the 2022 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value; if you want a newer-year alternative with a wider range of choices, the 2023 is worth a look.
