CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 46 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,995 CAD, 26.1% of 2023 Hyundai Elantra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Hyundai Elantra 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out for offering a wide spread of choices in one compact sedan, from basic transportation to performance-oriented driving. It is also presented as a roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced alternative to an SUV, which gives it broad appeal for buyers who want practicality without moving up to a larger vehicle. Its value proposition is a major part of the appeal, especially in a market where new-car prices can feel out of reach.
The Elantra’s strengths are reinforced by its multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and excellent value for money. The lineup also includes a 4.7 L/100 km hybrid loaded with features, which makes efficiency a clear selling point. At the same time, the car’s design may not suit everyone, since its styling is described as potentially polarising. Owner feedback generally aligns with the car’s strengths, with praise for fuel economy, safety features, value, and the available tech, while some drivers have noted concerns about interior quality and cabin noise.

This car provides exceptional value and incredible features. I can’t think of anything it is missing. Great gas mileage. I would compare it to a Honda Accord with a lower price and better gas mileage.

Great car… no complaints; mileage/handling/tech features etc superb keeping in mind bang for buck cost vs. features. Have owned several Elantra’s over many years.

How much does the 2023 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,908 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $20,887 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,608 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,608 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.44% |
Prices have softened 11.44% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 654 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.88/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, safety features, value for the price, and available tech. The model also gets credit for its stylish design and easy-to-use technology.
The main trade-offs are interior quality and cabin noise, and the design may not suit everyone. Even so, it fits well if you want a roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced compact sedan instead of moving up to an SUV.
Only 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for fuel economy, safety, value, and tech. The expert evaluation also supports that impression by describing the car as cost-effective and well-suited to everyday use.
Hyundai’s 5-year, 100,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty and roadside assistance add peace of mind for used buyers.
For used shoppers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may show the interior-quality and noise concerns owners mention.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Elantra Essential is the value play, while the Preferred and Luxury trims add more upscale equipment and presentation. The Luxury trim stands out for feeling more premium than its price suggests, and the N Line Ultimate is the choice if you want the sportier character.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT/IVT and front-wheel drive. If you want a dual-clutch transmission and an independent multi-link rear suspension, look at the N Line Ultimate, Elantra Hybrid, or Elantra N.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, a full complement of airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Highway Driving Assist, safe exit warning, cyclist detection, and intersection turning assist.
- Infotainment: The available 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment setup brings Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, connected services, dynamic voice recognition, navigation, and a wireless charging pad. Wireless phone mirroring is not supported, so you need a USB connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid uses 4.7 L/100 km in combined driving, while the tested non-hybrid returned 7.1 L/100 km during evaluation and is rated at 6.7 L/100 km officially.
Which 2023 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Hybrid, N Line Ultimate, and N.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra lineup and the core safety and practicality the car is known for.
- Preferred: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value, especially if you can add the available tech package.
- Luxury: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the upscale cabin feel, the 10.25-inch displays, and the strongest all-round mix of comfort and technology.
- Hybrid: Choose this if fuel efficiency is your top priority and you want the 4.7 L/100 km combined figure with a feature-rich setup.
- N Line Ultimate: Pick this if you want the sportier driving character, the dual-clutch transmission, and the multi-link rear suspension.
- N: This is the enthusiast choice if you want the most performance-focused version and the only one with a manual transmission.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, while higher trims add more advanced driver-assistance features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 654 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.44% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,887 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $20,908 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,608 CAD.
That softer pricing can work in your favour if you buy now, because you may be entering the market after some of the steepest depreciation has already happened. For a future seller, though, it also means there is less room for prices to fall before the car reaches a more stable used-market level.
Strong value positioning helps support demand, especially for shoppers who want a well-equipped compact sedan without paying SUV money. The Elantra’s broad appeal should help it remain competitive with buyers who prioritise efficiency, technology, and safety.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2023 Elantra earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in all crash-test categories except frontal crash protection, where it received four stars.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, a full complement of airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system.
Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Highway Driving Assist, safe exit warning, cyclist detection, and intersection turning assist. In testing, the driving aids were smooth and subtle, which makes them easier to trust and use day to day.
Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It broadens access to the 10.25-inch digital displays and adds a strong mix of value, tech, and safety.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $18,608 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,908 CAD average.
- It delivers strong value, excellent fuel economy, and a roomy, well-equipped cabin.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $22,547 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $20,908 CAD average.
- It adds more style and standard equipment to an already versatile compact sedan.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and market availability, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the mild refresh and can pay more.
