How much does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 12.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 635 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its excellent value, impressive warranty, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design. That lines up with the Elantra’s role as a value-focused compact sedan with a roomy cabin and strong standard equipment. The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine, uncomfortable seats, and some cabin noise.

With a 34.2% good-or-great-deal share in the listings, you’re shopping in a market that still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with praise for its trouble-free ownership experience, strong value, and confidence-inspiring warranty coverage. The expert assessment also reinforces that sense of durability by highlighting top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright reliability and more about finding a well-kept example with the features and trim you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, while higher trims add more equipment and safety tech. The base grade is the one most likely to leave you wanting more standard features.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder is adequate, but it can feel short on power under hard acceleration. The N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder and a seven-speed DCT for a more engaging drive.
• Safety package: Hyundai’s driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assistance, automatic high beams, and driver attention alert. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Warning are not available on Essential, but are standard on other grades.
• Infotainment: The base setup includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rearview camera, HD Radio, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. Ultimate and N Line trims add a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system, but only wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with that larger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel consumption ranges from 6.7 L/100 km for the 2.0-litre engine to 7.6 L/100 km for the N Line. The hybrid returns 4.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Ultimate, and N Line.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want a strong safety and tech package. It gives you the core Elantra experience, but it is also the trim most likely to feel stripped down compared with the others.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and connectivity without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims. It’s the sweet spot if you want a more complete daily driver.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the most upscale mainstream Elantra experience, including the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, digital instrument cluster, Bose audio, and wireless charging.
• N Line: Pick this if you want the sportiest version in the standard gas lineup. It adds the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a more aggressive look, but the sport seats can be less comfortable on long drives.

Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Warning are standard on all trims except Essential.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 635 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.55% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,665 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $18,665 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,345 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Elantra has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier to move if you price yours competitively later. A softer market can also mean future sellers need to be realistic about condition, mileage, and trim to stand out. Well-equipped trims with strong feature content should hold broader appeal than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star front crash protection and five-star side crash protection and rollover resistance. It also earns top Good ratings in all six IIHS crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai’s standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking across the board. On all trims except Essential, you also get forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-centring assistance, automatic high beams, driver attention alert, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Warning. Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.

One caveat to watch for is headlight equipment: lower-level trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS rating, while trims with LED headlights earned Good.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines stylish design, strong standard safety, and excellent fuel economy at a bargain price.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,561 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,665 CAD average.
• It offers a polished, stylish redesign with strong value and a comfortable daily-driving feel.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,937 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,665 CAD average.
• It broadens the lineup with more choice, including a highly efficient hybrid and more tech-forward options.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the best balance of price, safety, efficiency, and features. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense if you want a newer-feeling lineup and are willing to pay more.
