What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims differ most in equipment and polish. The base LX is the most stripped-back, while Touring adds the most upscale cabin and technology, so you should check whether the lower trims leave out features you care about.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the more satisfying choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The car also gets proper blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, with Touring adding rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with volume and tuning knobs, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Touring test vehicle returned 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres on a 150-kilometre loop, while the reported combined estimate is 6.9 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Civic’s core design, standard safety tech, and basic infotainment without paying for extras.
• EX: This is the trim to focus on if you want a better-equipped Civic without jumping all the way to the top. It should suit most shoppers best because it balances features and value more effectively than the lower and higher trims.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a slightly more expressive version of the Civic with a sportier feel and appearance, while still staying below Touring pricing.
• Touring: This is the most luxurious and best-equipped version, with the turbocharged engine, larger digital display, wireless smartphone integration, premium audio, and the most complete feature set.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 860 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.04% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,951 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $23,951 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,625 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The Civic’s strong reputation, broad appeal, and high owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Higher-trim cars with the turbo engine and richer technology package may hold buyer interest better than sparsely equipped versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?

The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. The system is described as smoother, more accurate, and more refined than before, helped by a wide-view front camera and eight ultrasonic sonar sensors. The Civic also adds rear side-impact airbags and a rear-seat reminder system.

A key strength is that Honda finally replaces the old LaneWatch setup with a proper blind-spot warning system that works on both sides of the car. Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert, so that trim gives you the most complete safety package in the lineup.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign, engineering, and technology are presented as a major step forward for this generation.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,364 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,951 CAD average.
• It is the outgoing generation, which may appeal if you want a proven car before the redesign.

The 2022 is the better pick if you want the newer body, updated technology, and stronger overall refinement. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the value-oriented alternative, especially if you are comfortable with the older generation’s design and feature set.
