What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims differ most in comfort, appearance, and technology. The base LX is the most stripped-back, while Touring adds the most premium equipment and is the best-value choice if you want the fullest feature set.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the one to seek if you want the stronger all-round performance.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-seat reminder. Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert, so check carefully if that matters to you.
• Infotainment: Every Civic gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Touring returned 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres on a 150-kilometre driving loop, while Natural Resources Canada reported 6.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Civic’s core redesign, standard safety tech, and the lowest purchase price. It is the most basic choice, so you give up the richer cabin and upgraded tech found higher up.
• EX: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of comfort and equipment without jumping all the way to the top. It should suit you well if you want a more complete daily driver than the LX.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a slightly more expressive version of the Civic with the same core mechanical setup as the LX and EX. It is a sensible middle ground if you value style and a bit more presence.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest mix of performance, technology, and premium features. It adds the turbocharged engine, larger digital display, wireless smartphone integration, premium audio, and the most complete equipment list.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some leverage if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 846 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.34% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,755 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $23,755 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,495 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The current trend suggests the Civic is still in demand, but not immune to broader price pressure in the used market.

Strong owner satisfaction helps support long-term desirability, especially for a model that already has a reputation for practicality and everyday appeal. If you keep the car in good condition and choose a well-equipped trim, you should have a better chance of holding buyer interest later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?

The 2022 Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-seat reminder. The system is described as smoother and more refined than before, helped by a wide-view front camera and ultrasonic sensors.

A key strength is that Honda has replaced the old LaneWatch setup with a proper blind-spot warning system that works on both sides of the sedan. Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert, so that is one feature gap to note if you are comparing trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign, engineering, and technology make this year one of the strongest compact-car choices.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,503 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,755 CAD average.
• It is the outgoing generation, which gives it a proven, familiar character.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the better-rounded Civic with newer technology, stronger safety equipment, and a more modern driving experience. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you are comfortable with the older generation’s age and feature set.
