What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims differ most in equipment and refinement. The base trims are simpler, while Touring adds the most upscale interior materials, a larger digital display, and more premium features.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower, while Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the more satisfying choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The car also gets blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, with Touring adding rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Touring returned 7.7 L/100 km on a 150-kilometre loop, while Natural Resources Canada estimates 6.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the redesigned Civic, and it gives you the core Civic experience with the standard 2.0-litre engine and the full Honda Sensing safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and do not need the extra comfort or tech upgrades.
• EX: This trim keeps the same engine but adds more equipment than LX, making it a better everyday choice if you want a more rounded ownership experience without jumping to the top of the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more engaging feel and extra features without pushing all the way to Touring pricing. If you want a Civic that feels a bit richer without paying for the most expensive tech, this is the one to focus on.
• Touring: This is the most premium version, with the turbocharged engine, larger digital instrumentation, a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, premium audio, and the most upscale cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most complete Civic and are comfortable paying for it.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping rather than impulse buying.

• Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 875 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,510 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $23,510 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,211 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently today, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to normalise. The current trend suggests the Civic is no longer in the same pricing position it held a year ago, so resale gains may be more modest than they were. Even so, strong demand and broad appeal should help keep it attractive to used buyers over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?

The 2022 Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The car also replaces the old LaneWatch setup with proper blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, which is a meaningful improvement for everyday driving. Honda further strengthens the package with a more robust body structure, improved front airbag design, rear side-impact airbags, and a rear-seat reminder system. Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign is a major success, with strong technology, comfort, and driving appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,185 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,510 CAD average.
• The outgoing generation is still a practical, well-liked compact car with strong fuel economy and a comfortable ride.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the newer redesign, stronger tech, and a more polished overall package. If your priority is saving money and you are comfortable with the older generation, the 2021 remains a sensible value play.

How does the 2022 Honda Civic compare to the 2022 Toyota Corolla?

Our experts score the 2022 Honda Civic 7.7/10 and the 2022 Toyota Corolla 7.2/10. The Civic brings the stronger engine, better highway efficiency, and a more premium-feeling tech and safety package. The Corolla undercuts it on average used price and has a slightly higher share of good and great deals, so it can make sense if your priority is lower upfront cost. If you want the more polished and better-rounded compact sedan, the Civic has the edge.
