Honda’s next-generation safety and driver-assistance systems add to the sense that this is a carefully engineered used buy. What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LX, Sport, and Sport Touring are the trim levels offered in Canada. The Sport Touring adds more sophisticated digital instrumentation and infotainment displays, plus the most complete feature set, while lower trims are more basic and miss some of the convenience and audio upgrades.
• Powertrain: The LX and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while Sport Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. All trims offer a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission, and every version is front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot warning is standard, but rear cross-traffic warning is reserved for Sport Touring. Sport Touring models with a CVT also get Low-Speed Braking Control.
• Infotainment: LX and Sport get a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and physical power/volume and tuning knobs. Sport Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint 2 surround-sound audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sport Touring with the CVT is rated at 7.1 L/100 km combined, while the manual transmission is rated at 7.5 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and Sport Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Civic hatchback’s core practicality and the standard 7-inch touchscreen, but you’re fine without the richer cabin presentation and extra convenience features found higher up.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the more desirable balance of equipment and everyday usability while staying below the top-spec model. It also gets the stronger turbocharged engine, which makes it the most appealing middle ground if you want more performance without going all the way to Sport Touring.
• Sport Touring: This is the one to choose if you want the most complete Civic hatchback experience. It adds the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, navigation, the Bose audio system, more advanced digital instrumentation, and rear cross-traffic warning. If you want the most features and the most polished feel, this is the trim to target.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but rear cross-traffic warning is limited to Sport Touring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings may still move quickly.

• Deal availability: 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 79 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,802 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $26,594 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,649 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less favourable if you’re planning to sell soon. If prices remain near the current average, future sellers may need to be more competitive to stand out, especially against well-equipped examples with desirable trims and transmissions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot warning is standard, while rear cross-traffic warning is limited to Sport Touring. Sport Touring models with a CVT also add Low-Speed Braking Control.

One caveat is that some driver aids can feel a little intrusive in operation, especially when traffic cuts into your lane or when the lane-keeping systems are active. Even so, the overall safety package is strong, and the IIHS result is a major confidence point for used buyers.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 redesign brings back the hatchback body style with a more practical cargo area and a more current overall package.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Civic Hatchback with strong practicality, solid safety, and broad mainstream appeal, the 2022 is the right place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully for a lower-priced listing, but the 2022’s combination of updated design and useful hatchback packaging makes it the primary year to target.
