The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is a redesigned 11th-generation model that brings back the hatch body style with added practicality for everyday use. Is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback reliable?

Honda’s updated Civic Hatchback is presented as a refined, mainstream compact car with improved operation in its safety and driver-assistance systems. The expert test drive notes that the car feels well put together, with high-quality controls and a polished overall impression, while the powertrain and chassis tuning are described as well sorted for daily use.

The performance notes also point to a dependable, easy-to-live-with character: the CVT works well with the turbocharged engine, and the manual transmission is described as a real sweetheart with short throws and excellent clutch modulation. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about choosing the right trim and transmission for the equipment you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, Sport, and Sport Touring trims differ meaningfully, with the top trim getting more sophisticated digital instrumentation and infotainment displays, while lower trims miss some of the richer equipment and convenience features.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower; all trims offer a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission, and the turbo engine is the more energetic option.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist; rear cross-traffic warning is reserved for Sport Touring, and Low-Speed Braking Control is also limited to Sport Touring models with a CVT.
• Infotainment: LX and Sport get a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Sport Touring adds a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, navigation, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sport Touring with the CVT is rated at 7.1 L/100 km combined, while the manual transmission is rated at 7.5 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and Sport Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Civic hatchback’s practicality and core safety tech at the lowest step in the range, but it leaves out some of the nicer convenience and infotainment upgrades found higher up.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the stronger turbocharged engine and more desirable equipment without jumping all the way to the top-spec price.
• Sport Touring: This is the one to buy if you want the most complete Civic hatchback experience, including the larger infotainment display, wireless smartphone integration, premium audio, and the extra safety and convenience features that Honda reserves for the top trim.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, but rear cross-traffic warning is limited to Sport Touring, and Low-Speed Braking Control is also restricted to Sport Touring models with a CVT.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly when you find a strong one.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 81 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,801 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $26,411 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,812 CAD.

That softer pricing trend can be helpful if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about where the market is headed. If prices continue to normalise, resale values could stay under pressure compared with the prior year’s level. On the other hand, a well-equipped Civic Hatchback with strong demand and the right trim mix should still attract plenty of shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot warning is standard in Canada, while rear cross-traffic warning is limited to Sport Touring. Sport Touring models with a CVT also get Low-Speed Braking Control.

One caveat is that some of the driver aids can feel a little assertive in operation, with braking and lane-keeping interventions that are not always perfectly transparent to the driver.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings back the hatchback body style as part of the Civic’s 11th generation, adding everyday practicality to the redesigned model.

The bottom line: If you want the Civic Hatchback’s redesigned look, added practicality, and strong safety reputation, the 2022 is the right year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-priced listings and be ready to move when you find one near the bottom of the range.
